Nga tamariki aged between 2 and 4.5 years we call Kea. We love their curiosity and enjoyment of life, and have created a learning programme that fosters self-directed play and provide learning experiences based on observations of their current interests.
In our huge spacious playground children can enjoy a range of sports and games and includes specialised programmes that develop children's balance and coordination. Riding balance bikes on our BMX track is one of our favourite activities, and loose parts play where children create, problem-solve and learn how to work as a team is another. We also love going out our back gate up the hill for walks, which is a great adventure. We grow vegetables in our garden (depending on the season) and the children eat the produce they grow. This also encourages children to recycle, reduce and reuse, with food scraps going to either the worm farm, compost bin or chickens.
We have pets that the children help to look after - turtles (Murtle & Yoda), Jar-jar the cockatiel, a few goldfish and chickens.
We celebrate children's interests and strengths in their journey of learning and development which we record in individual portfolios (as well as an on-line platform (Educa) for you and whānau to enjoy, comment on and write your own stories), the children love reading about themselves and revisiting their learning.
Our team plan many fun events for whānau in our centre. We have special birthday celebrations, special friend/whānau morning teas, and go to visit local schools and rest homes for akonga (learners) to have a feeling of inclusion in their community.
