Tomorrow night's our board meeting presentation! I hope you can make it; the kids have been practicing every day (but families are busy, so don't worry if you can't). Our part will come at about 6:30pm, when the board comes back to the community room from closed session. Plan to be here at about 6:20. And you're welcome to head out as soon as we're finished since you have little ones to put to bed. You're also welcome to stay of course, and see what the board meeting is all about!
Prospective field trip drivers -we'll hold our lottery on Monday October 19th and include all those who have *all* of their paperwork on file in the office. Be sure to stop in the office and see Lori to make sure your info is up to date.

The kiddos earned the pajama party they've been working towards! Every time we were all making great choices, we colored in a bit of a picture and now that it's completely colored, we've earned a party! So kids can wear their pajamas on Monday and bring a stuffed lovey the length of their arm from elbow to fingertip or less (they should be able to show you the size). As always, these silly days are optional, and they don't have to wear jammies if they'd rather not. Everyone should still wear closed-toed shoes for recess and PE, and bring a jacket if it's cold.
The new math books are in your child's backpack today, along with a letter about homework. If you ever lose the week's homework letter, I also post it on our class website. Today in math we learned about pairs - look for pairs in your world and talk together about why they're called pairs (shoes, scissors, glasses, etc)!

We’re trying something new! We have a Math Home Connections book that includes all of our homework for the remainder of the year. Each week, you’ll find a letter into the homework folder to let you know which lessons/games to do and which to send back. Only send back the pages indicated, but do return the homework folder each week (both to turn in any pencil/paper pages and to get the next assignment letter). Look for the book and letter tomorrow! Also in tomorrow’s Friday folder: Picture Day order forms.

Next Tuesday the 13th is our turn to perform at the school board meeting! We’ll perform our apple songs and poems when the open meeting begins at 6:30, so plan to arrive ~6:20. We’ve also been practicing to lead the Pledge of Allegiance to begin the meeting. I hope to see you there!
Our class has adopted a calf, Luna - all year long we'll be getting updates about Luna and learning about her life on a dairy farm. Ask your child about Luna tonight, and about what he/she did in the garden today!

Hello Kindergarten Families,
Can you believe it's October? Thank you to everyone for the wonderful booth and all the help during our Walkathon! You are an amazing team!
This month is a busy one too. Of course we're learning all about apples and the bees who pollinate them, tasting apples, and playing apple games, while we also practice our letter names and sounds and our numbers to 10. We're also learning songs and poems to recite when we perform for the school board on October 13th. We'll do our part right when open sessions begins at ~6:30, and you can take your little one home right after because we know it's a school night (of course you are also welcome to stay and see what the board meeting is all about!).
School picture day is October 19th!
Our first field trip is October 27th to the Luther Burbank center for the show "The Three PIgs." We'll use parents' cars and leave right away that day, and will be back by lunchtime. Everyone will need to make sure their child's booster seat stays at school that day for use on the field trip. Thank you to those who are able to drive - everyone should check in at the office to show Lori a current insurance card; they've all expired since the field trip to Oliver's last year!
Then on October 30th, we have our annual Halloween parade and a party back in the classroom. A signup form will be coming out soon for party supplies and games, and families are welcome to come to the parade and party. The whole school will dismiss at 11:45am that day, and there will be no school on Monday November 2nd.
That's a lot to remember - it's going to be a great fall!

PS Tomorrow we retell "Little Green Worm" to our 5th grade buddies and then will bring our props home to tell the story to you too!

I hope you had fun revisiting fairy tales with your little one this week. Little Red Riding Hood came home today to join Jack's beanstalk climbing to the castle. We read lots of versions of both stories -ask your child about his/her favorite version. The beanstalk growing in your child's cup is a fava bean plant, in case you'd like to repot it and let it continue to grow. We've been working on our alphabet sounds and on patterns and counting by ones and tens too. Ask your child to look for letters and numerals out in the world-on signs and stores and license plates; it can be a fun game you play together!
Some big dates are coming up quickly. September 25th is the Walkathon, which takes place after lunch. Because the Walkathon runs until 2:30, kindergarteners are welcome to stay the entire day that day with our class. We always need volunteers to mark lap passes, decorate and more, so you are most welcome to stay too! If you do need to leave at 1:30 that day, please find me and let me know so that I can always have a proper headcount. Likewise, if your little one tires out and you decide to leave before the Walkathon officially ends, please find me and let me know you're heading out, and be sure to sign out in the office too.
Then on October 13th, our class will be presenting to the school board. Each class takes a turn during the year to show off what we're learning. We'll sing a song and show them what we've been learning. The board meeting officially begins at 6:00 but starts with a short closed session-our part will take place at approximately 6:30pm. And as soon as we're done, feel free to take your kiddo home to bed (although of course you are also welcome to stay for the remainder of the meeting too).
Next week we'll have a visit from the WildCare van and will be learning all about wild California native animals. We can't wait!
