News From Kindergarten

I hope you had fun revisiting fairy tales with your little one this week. Little Red Riding Hood came home today to join Jack's beanstalk climbing to the castle. We read lots of versions of both stories -ask your child about his/her favorite version. The beanstalk growing in your child's cup is a fava bean plant, in case you'd like to repot it and let it continue to grow. We've been working on our alphabet sounds and on patterns and counting by ones and tens too. Ask your child to look for letters and numerals out in the world-on signs and stores and license plates; it can be a fun game you play together!

Some big dates are coming up quickly. September 25th is the Walkathon, which takes place after lunch. Because the Walkathon runs until 2:30, kindergarteners are welcome to stay the entire day that day with our class. We always need volunteers to mark lap passes, decorate and more, so you are most welcome to stay too! If you do need to leave at 1:30 that day, please find me and let me know so that I can always have a proper headcount. Likewise, if your little one tires out and you decide to leave before the Walkathon officially ends, please find me and let me know you're heading out, and be sure to sign out in the office too.

Then on October 13th, our class will be presenting to the school board. Each class takes a turn during the year to show off what we're learning. We'll sing a song and show them what we've been learning. The board meeting officially begins at 6:00 but starts with a short closed session-our part will take place at approximately 6:30pm. And as soon as we're done, feel free to take your kiddo home to bed (although of course you are also welcome to stay for the remainder of the meeting too).

Next week we'll have a visit from the WildCare van and will be learning all about wild California native animals. We can't wait!
