Homework is sent out weekly on Fridays in your student's Friday Folder. Friday folders are arranged with a "return to school" and a "keep at home: side. The "return to school" side has your student's homework as well as any other important papers that need to be returned. The "keep at home" side usually contains completed student work, at home resources, or other papers that do not have to be brought back. It is expected that students go through their Friday folders with a grown up weekly to discuss what homework is due and to review their completed work. Having an adult look over the work they have done over the week creates as sense of accountability within the classroom and opens a line of communication between parents and students.
Students receive a homework packet on their "return to school" side of their folder. Homework is not graded on accuracy but it is tracked and recorded. Our report card does have as section regarding how often and on time students return homework. The homework packet usually contains about 2 double sided math pages that correlate to what we are learning in class, a worksheet focusing on our toolbox tool of the week, and a few other odds and ends assignments to reinforce ideas and concepts taught in class. Any unfinished work from throughout the week is also sent home with the homework packet. This is work that a student either did not complete during class time or because they were absent.
There is a parent volunteer who assembles the homework packets and stuffs Friday folders. This happens on Friday morning. Please aim to have your student's Friday Folders and homework returned BY Thursday to make sure that there is ample time to prepare their folders.
Please complete homework at a pace that works for you, your family, and your student! If you want to hunker down and power through and turn it all back in on Monday that's great! But if you spread out the assignments throughout the weekend and throughout the following week and turn the folder in on Thursday, that's great too! You could even return the folder itself on Monday and the work throughout the week as its completed!
If homework is taking longer than a week to complete or is a struggle for anyone involved, please let me know.
