What’s Happening in Fourth Grade
Week of March 16, 2020
Reading (Mrs. Isaminger):
This week, the students will finish a culminating in-class project over Island of the Blue Dolphins. The students’ in-class projects will be due on Thursday, March 19th. While most of the students will complete the entirety of their projects in class, it is possible some students will bring home portions of the projects to complete as homework.
The students will also complete a variety of review activities for their Lesson 9 Wordly Wise words this week. There will be a Wordly Wise test over Lesson 9 on Wednesday, March 18th.
Language Arts (Mrs. Isaminger):
This week, the students will finish chapter seven of Shurley English. Chapter seven teaches direct objects, transitive verbs, verb tenses, regular and irregular verbs, and tenses of helping verbs. There will be a Shurley English test over chapter seven on Thursday, March 19th.
Writing (Mrs. Isaminger):
This week, the students will finish their typed final copies of their Sea Animal Research papers. In addition, the students will learn how to create a bibliography of the sources they used to complete their research. The students will also begin a poem this week called a Character Poem.
Bible (Miss Reech)
MV: Romans 12: 4-5 - “Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” We will be learning about The Body of Christ and how we work together as a body of believers. We will not have a Bible test this week.
Spelling (Miss Reech)
We will not have a spelling list this week. Please work on cursive handwriting.
Social Studies (Miss Reech)
Our vocabulary test for the Middle Atlantic States will be Wednesday, March 18.
We are finishing up our unit on this region. Students will receive their study guide this week, and the test will be Tuesday, March 24th. They were already tested on the states of the Northeast region, so they will not have a map portion for this chapter. However, they can continue to practice studying the location of the 50 states at sheppardsoftware.com in preparation for the 50 states test at the end of the year.
Science (Mrs. Jaques)
We will begin our new unit on the makeup of the Earth. They will discover differences in soils. They will also learn about different types of rocks and how they are formed.
Science fair is Friday!!! Students have received their colored manilla folders to use for the backdrops. Important information can be found in their Science Fair packet which should be in their “Jaques Folder” Students 1-9 should bring their backboard and written report to present on Wednesday, March 18. Students 10-17 should bring their backboard and written report to present on Thursday, March 19. The Science Fair will be on Friday, March 20.
Math (Mrs. Jaques)
We will begin Chapter 26 on understanding decimals. The students will relate fractions to decimals. They will compare and order decimals to the thousandths place. We will not have a math quiz or test this week. On Wednesday, March 25, the students will have a timed basic-facts multiplication/division mixed test.
