Definitions

Adaptation, Adapt: Physical or behavioral change that allows an organism to better survive in the habitat

Digit: Another word for a finger or toe

Endangered, Endangered Species: Organisms with a low population and that are at risk of dying out

Extinct: All organisms from that species are dead; there are none living on earth

Extirpation (local extinction): When a species no longer exists in an area it used to live in, though it still exists elsewhere

Instinct: A natural action that an animal does without being taught

Microhabitat: A habitat which is small and different from the surrounding habitat

Offspring: A plant or animal's young

Omnivorous, Omnivore: An animal that will eat plants and animals

Reproduction, Reproduce: The process by which plants and animals produce offspring
