This our most advanced orchestra where students will have the opportunity to improve their skills at the highest level. This is an auditioned ensemble where each student is expected to maintain the highest level of responsibility and musical preparation.
Advanced Orchestra participates in a minimum of four concerts each year, in addition to two contest performances: March ISSMA Jazz and April ISSMA Organizational contests. Students are able to participate in orchestra and other school activities.
This our training orchestra where students will have the opportunity to improve their skills and maintain their string music connection while participating in other school activities.
Intermediate Orchestra participates in a minimum of four concerts each year, in addition to our April ISSMA Organizational contest.
Jazz Strings is an extra-curricular ensemble focused on non-traditional string styles and learning how to improvise and solo.
Madrigal Strings is an invitation-only extra-curricular ensemble limited to 12-15 strings.
Madrigal Dinners at CHS is a 50 year tradition. The cafeteria is transformed into a “Great Hall” complete with Elizabethan settings and costumes for “Ye Olde Madrigal Christmas Feasts.” The cast of approximately 100 sing, play, juggle, amuse and serve throughout each of the five performances.
The pit orchestra performs for the fall CHS musical and is an invitation-only ensemble. Selection to this ensemble is based first on what the musical needs and director recommendation. The pit orchestra rehearses after school in October and performs three shows the second weekend of November.
Recent musicals have included: The Sound of Music, Chicago, and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.
