We will Acquire a whole new set of instruments which will turn the lab into a completely new body and will require a new location which is currently being negotiated. We will acquire a new TIMS, a new MC-ICP-MS a new high res single collector ICPMS and a new triple quad as well as a new 193 Eximer laser. Additionally, a clean laboratory will be built and we will invest in a few other smaller pieces of equipment like micronill and a couple of polishing tools. This is huge !! and challenging.
The Petrochron facility has now invested 1 million euros in equipment since 2022.
April 2025. Our XRF facility is now fully operational and can provide major and trace elemental analyses for the interested geoscientists academia or industry. Major elements in silicates are measured primarily, but we entertain the idea of measuring other materials.
We are in the process of acquiring a second ICP-MS in 2025 in order to streamline geochronology versus elemental chemistry work. We expect installation to take place in October 2025
Dec 2024. The Petrochron lab group won the best science team grand prize in December 2024 - handed out by the University of Bucharest Senate. Congrats to us, all 15 of us now members of the group. Some were present at the award. University Provost, Dr. Chifiriuc handed us the award!
Mihai became a FELLOW of the AGU at the Washington DC meeting this December (2024)
