A modern laser ablation ICP-MS laboratory dedicated to minerals, rocks and other solid materials
University of Bucharest Petrochronology Laboratory
Located in the N. Balcescu building of the Faculty of Geology and Geophysics, the recently opened (2023) petrochronology laboratory aims to carry out fundamental science projects in the fields of geochemistry and U-Pb geochronology but also provide services to external users from industry to academia. We are also setting up routines for archaeoscience, biogeochemical and other applications with U. Bucharest users in mind but open to any other innovative ideas from outside. We are open to collaboration with any interested party. A separate rock and mineral preparation faclity was built in support of the laboratory. The project was funded by Romanian MCID C1.2.PFE-CDI.2021-587/Contract no.41PFE/30.12.2021.
We fuse silicate whole rocks and measure glasses for whole rock geochemistry
Down to micron scale elemental analyses on minerals and other solids
Standard zircon, apatite and titanite geochrology or combination age-chemistry on these minerals
Custom projects -elemental chemistry and Pb isotopes; liquid sample introduction is also available
