The course will conclude with George Orwell's acclaimed text, 1984. Current events and outside sources will be used to help students make connections between the real world around them and the concepts and theories imagined by Orwell.

What was Orwell warning us, and are his warnings still relevant today?
What protects and endangers the rights of individuals? What can people do to protect themselves? To what extent should the government protect us?
How does language control the scope of human thought?
What are the 14 elements of fascism and how do they control society in 1984 and our world?
Which elements of our society could lead to a dystopian future, like the one depicted in 1984?
