Message from the Health Office
As we approach the cold and flu season, we kindly remind you to keep your child home if they are feeling unwell. This helps prevent the spread of illness and ensures the well-being of our entire school community.
Students who experience fever, diarrhea, or vomiting may return to school one full school day after these symptoms have subsided (without the use of medication) or once a healthcare provider confirms they are cleared to return.
We appreciate your help in keeping our school safe and healthy for all students and staff.
Good Standing Policy
What does it mean to be in good standing?
Students are considered in “Good Standing” at Wells if they exhibit positive behavior, self-discipline, attendance, and performance.
Loss of “Good Standing” will result if any of the following occur: lower than a 2.0 GPA and/or two or more “F’s”, more than 10% absenteeism (not including medical notes provided by a verifying physician), excessive discipline issues (including but not limited to suspensions, violation of dress code or violation of electronic device policy), excessive tardies and truancies.
School privileges are defined as activities that are school sponsored: assemblies, dances, field trips, practices, rallies, rehearsals, sports and try-outs/auditions.
District Wide Cell Phone Policy
Wells students are not allowed to use cellphones, smart watches, headphones, or ear pods from 8:30 - 3:05 PM. They should be off and in their backpacks. They should not be on the student's body.
This policy aims to balance the benefits of technology with the need to maintain a positive and focused learning environment for all students. Limiting distractions can enhance focus, engagement, and academic achievement.
This is a district policy and there is no alternative to this.
If a student is found violating the policy, their device will be taken from them and placed in the school’s front office. The student’s parents will be required to come and pick up the device; it will not be returned directly to the student. There are no warning phase. Excessive violations will put the student in No Good Standing.
Picking up Students before School Ends
We are requesting parents to schedule appointments in a way so that you do not have to sign out students from 2:45 - 3:05 PM.

AVID at Wells
AVID is an elective that our 7th and 8th graders can take as an elective class. Our 6th grade students take AVID as part of their Wheel. AVID is a program that helps students to build their study skills and explore college and career. It has an application process and Feb 18th is the last day to submit applications to be considered for the program.
Parent Volunteer Needed for Career Chat
One of the aspects of the AVID program is to explore future interests and college and career exploration. Who better to speak about careers than the people who are in that career? Please consider volunteering and discussing about your career in one of our AVID classes. Your student does not have to be in AVID for you to present to our AVID students.
This is a chance for parents to academically motivate our community of students. By the way, if your company offers community hours, here is an opportunity.
We appreciate your consideration.
Career and Pathway Far
This event will be held on Saturday, February 8th from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm in the Dublin city library's community room to the left of the library's entrance. Parents and students are welcome to attend!
The Career Pathway Seminar will consist of numerous booths set up by individuals from STEM to culinary, along with raffles, a map through the community room, and take-home activities for attendees. Each table will additionally hold a poster board about the field and suggested classes, activities, and opportunities for aspiring students.
This event is for high schoolers and 8th graders to explore opportunities they will have in the future!

Toy guns are not welcome on any school campus
Hello Wells Community,
My goal is to create a safe learning environment for our students and staff. Without a sense of security, it's difficult for our campus community to live up to their potential.
With that in mind, I want to address an important matter regarding items brought to campus. Recently, one of our students brought a toy weapon to school. While these items may seem harmless to some, it is crucial to understand the potential consequences of their presence on campus. Toy weapons can be mistaken for real ones, leading to unnecessary fear, disruption, and law enforcement involvement. Such situations not only cause distress but also divert critical police resources away from genuine emergencies.
To ensure the safety and security of everyone on campus, I want to remind all members of our school community that no weapons of any kind, including toy weapons, are permitted on school grounds. This policy is in place to protect our students, staff, and visitors and to prevent misunderstandings that could escalate into serious incidents.
We kindly request your cooperation in discussing this policy with your child. Please emphasize the importance of leaving any toy weapons or items that resemble weapons at home. Our shared commitment to this policy is essential to maintaining the safe learning environment that all students and staff deserve.
There are severe consequences for failing to comply with this policy. Any student who brings a weapon (toy or real) on campus will face significant disciplinary actions.
If you have any questions or concerns about this policy or need further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact me.
I appreciate your partnership in helping us keep our school community safe and secure.
Sincerely,
Sukanya Goswami (she/her/hers)Principal

No Full Face Masks of any kind will be allowed
All make-up, hair coloring spray, etc… must be applied before arriving at school.
Weapons of any sort (plastic or real incl. toy guns, swords, knives, or martial arts weapons, etc.) are NOT allowed as part of any costume at school. Anything inappropriate will be confiscated.
No large sports equipment (hockey sticks, baseball bats, etc).
Costumes must comply with the school dress code, be age-appropriate (no R-rated themes), and be respectful to others.
Any student wearing an inappropriate costume will be asked to change into other clothing.
Costumes are not expected or required on Halloween, but if your child decides to dress up, please help select a costume that supports our efforts to provide a positive and fun environment.

Hope everyone is enjoying the 4-day weekend.
Grades will be available by Wednesday, 16th. The new quarter and Wheel shift for 6th graders will start from Monday, October 14.

Picking up Students before School Ends
We struggle with exiting students safely at the end of the school day, if parents pick up students from 2:45-3:05 PM. Our campus security personnel have to get students from their classes which creates disruption in their regular supervision duty when school ends.
We are requesting parents to schedule appointments in a way so that you do not have to sign out students from 2:45 - 3:05 PM.

BikeMobile - Tuesday 10/8 from 3-5PM at Wells
We want to see more students riding their bikes to school this semester! That’s why we’ve invited BikeMobile to provide Free Tune-Ups and repairs for everyone here!
Is your bike making one of those mystery sounds? Is it in your garage collecting dust because it has a flat tire - or worse, no tire at all? If so, bring it to school on Tuesday, October 8, because The BikeMobile will be providing free tune-ups and repairs from 3-5 PM.
The BikeMobile can fix flat tires, adjust brakes and gears, and even replace broken or worn out parts like chains, seats, and tires. The only thing it can’t do is replace missing wheels or gears.
While the mechanics work on your bike they’ll explain how your bike works and how to keep it
running smooth. Bike or no bike, everyone is welcome to attend! This is a first come, first serve event. Space is limited to 20 people. We look forward to seeing you there!
Joking Vs Teasing
Among young people, the line between joking and teasing is not clear. We define it as whether it impacts another person or not. We would like parents' cooperation to convey the same message to our students. A joke can become a tease with serious implications.
Physical Altercations
When there is a physical altercation on campus, the California Education Code gives schools guidance on consequences. Here is a reminder from our Minder Binder with consequences relevant to Wells.
California Education Code Section 48900
Caused, attempted to cause, or threatened to cause physical injury to another person. Causing serious physical injury to another person, except in self-defense ➔ Possessing an imitation firearm ➔ Gambling of any kind ➔ Possession or viewing of pornographic materials
POSSIBLE CONSEQUENCES
● item confiscated ● Parent Contact ● possible police contact ● 3-5 day suspension ● possible expulsion recommendation
● loss of school activities up to one quarter (out of good standing) Upcoming dance ● restitution (repairs, staff time, replacement)
Filming on campus incidents and/or sharing film with others (i.e. text, direct message, social media, etc) is subject to consequence.

Media Release - Important
It has come to our attention that the information collected in the Infinite Campus Annual Update for the media release field link was not working. Please fill out this Media Release Google Form (1 per student) to ensure we have accurate information about who is to be shown in our media platforms/yearbook by September 30, 2024.
If no response is received by September 30th, DUSD will assume that you have given your consent to the school and/or district for the use of your child's photograph (video or still), voice, likeness, and/or name.
Joking Vs Teasing
In our classroom presentations, we discussed with students an important topic on the difference between joking and teasing. The goal is to reduce verbal bullying in the name of joking with friends. We would appreciate it if you continue that conversation at home. It is important for students to receive the same message from school and home.
Picking up Students before School Ends
Parents/Guardians,
We struggle with exiting students safely at the end of the school day, if parents pick up students from 2:45-3:05 PM. Our campus security personnel have to get students from their classes which creates disruption in their regular supervision duty when school ends.
We are requesting parents to schedule appointments in a way so that you do not have to sign out students from 2:45 - 3:05 PM.
School Lunch
Parents, we do not want to have any App food drivers deliver food to our students for safety reasons. Please have student lunches delivered 10 min before lunch begins. After lunch begins we cannot guarantee that food can be delivered to the student on time. A reminder that at school we provide food daily. Thank you for your support.
Dropping Student Materials
Parents, please try to plan with your students to have everything they would need to bring to school. It is challenging for us to deliver individual items to students in classes. Thank you for your support.
School Expectations
We would appreciate your cooperation with the following expectations:
Food Delivery through Apps
For safety reasons, we will not be accepting food deliveries from online services.
Our students are offered free brunch and lunch on campus. Parents can drop in food at the front office till 10 minutes before lunch for timely delivery. Once the lunch period starts, food will be delivered to the student, but it might not be during lunchtime.
Cell Phones
Students will have their cell phones turned off during school hours, 8 AM - 3 PM, including lunch. Please reach out to the front office, and not your student, during school hours with any important information.
Basketballs or Soccer Balls
Due to safety reasons, we cannot allow personal basketballs and soccer balls in classes. We have them on campus for students to play during lunch.
Wearing helmets when riding bikes, skateboards, and scooters to and back from campus.
If your students get to and from school on their own, we ask parents to review best practices (wearing helmets, crossing at crosswalks, making eye contact with drivers, stopping bikes, scooters, etc. at stop signs, avoiding distractions) and relevant laws with their children.
Safety for our Bike and Scooter riders
We are noticing a number of students without helmets coming and leaving campus on their bicycles, skateboards, and scooters. Other issues include riding bikes, scooters, or skateboards on the wrong side of the road, not using crosswalks or leveraging crossing guards, and being distracted while traveling to school.
In California, riders under 18 must wear a Department of Transportation (DOT) approved and properly fitted helmet on all types of bikes, scooters, and skateboards—electric or manually powered.
If your students get to and from school on their own, we ask parents to review best practices (wearing helmets, crossing at crosswalks, making eye contact with drivers, stopping bikes, scooters, etc. at stop signs, avoiding distractions) and relevant laws with their children.
When behavior continues, we might have to hold the student back on campus and have parents come and pick them up for safety.

Hello Wells Community
It was nice to see many of you at Back to School Night. Here are some important information for the week.

Bathroom Vandalism
It is unfortunate that our school bathrooms have been repeatedly vandalized by our own students. To clean up the bathrooms, we have been locking them up for a couple of hours, creating inconvenience for our students. Moreover, this kind of vandalism takes resources, like personnel, time, and finance, away from where they are needed. We are discussing with our students to be active citizens on campus and say something when they see something.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tardy Detentions
When students are not in class on time, they not only miss important information, they do not get time to prep with the class to start the lesson for the day. This also creates interruptions for other students.
Students can be late for their first period, for which we would like our parents to partner with us to bring their students on time to school. Students can also be late for periods 2 through 6, which we consider CUTS, as these students are on campus but are still late to class.
The students' Minder Binder has the tardy policy and consequences in it. The consequences include after school detentions. We are going to start our after school detentions from September 9th. We will not accept exceptions due to after school activities or appointments (only medical with notes), as it is a conversation that also needs to happen at home to be in school on time.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Academic Prep
Our weekly bell schedule includes 2 Advisory periods (Monday and Friday) and 2 Academic Prep periods (Tuesday and Thursday). The purpose of Advisory is for teachers to provide structured lessons on life skills and executive functioning skills. The purpose of Academic Prep is for teachers to offer interventions.
At Wells, the intervention model includes a platform called Flexisched. On Monday, at Advisory, students sign up for classes on Flexisched that they feel they need more support in. At the same time, teachers identify students who should be coming to their class to receive more support and schedule them on Flexisched. We advise students to write down on their Minder Binder the name of the teacher they have signed up for or the name of the certain teacher who wants them to be in their class.
We are focusing on offering students individual intervention support. We encourage parents to partner with us to check their students' Minder Binder to make sure that they are scheduled with a teacher on Tuesday and another one on Thursday.

English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) Members Wanted
Would you like to be a member of the Wells Middle School English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC)? The purpose of the committee is to stay informed about, and to have input into, the English Language Development (ELD) program at Wells Middle School. The ELD program serves our English Language Learner (ELL) population—those with languages besides English---who have not yet reached English proficiency, as determined by district and state metrics. The committee meets three times a year to discuss curriculum, programs, assessments, goals, needs, and improvements for the ELD program. You do not even need to be the parent or the guardian of an English Language Learner! The committee is open to any parent or guardian of a student at Wells Middle School.
If you are interested, please contact Mr. Robert Herdman, ELD specialist at Wells Middle School for more details.
Contact him by email at herdmanrobert@dublinusd.org, or by phone at (925) 828-6227 Ext. 6074.

No More Schedule Change Requests
Our classes are impacted. We are not able to accommodate any further requests for schedule change, other than the ones that fall under the following considerations:
Incomplete schedule (missing a class)
Duplicate classes (e.g. two math classes are scheduled)
Inappropriate level (e.g. accidentally enrolled in Advanced Band when Beginning Band is more appropriate.)
We cannot accept schedule change requests for the following reasons:
Dislike for a teacher, disciplinary problems, desire to be with friends, lunch change, or failing grades.
