Read-A-Thon 2024

When is the Read-A-Thon?

Friday, January 26th beginning right after school through the morning of Friday, February 9th. Minutes turned in after this date cannot be included toward the final count.

How do I keep track of my reading?

Set a timer! Keep track of the amount of time you read. There will be a football on your homework coversheet to record the minutes you read that week.

Is there a reading log?

Yes! H-5 is using a formal reading log. In addition students will record their minutes from that week on the football on the coversheet of their homework.

Do I have to participate in the Read-A-Thon?

Yes! Every student must participate in keeping track of the minutes they have read.

Why should I participate in the Read-A-Thon?

Two reasons. One, to continue fostering a love of reading.  Two, to raise money that goes directly to our classroom.

Note: Ten percent of funds raised will go toward the school library.

How much do I have to read?

Read as much as you can! Every minute helps our class. You must do the 20 minutes of nightly reading as part of your homework and that totally counts towards the read-a-thon!

If an adult reads to me, does that count toward the read-a-thon? What if I read aloud to someone else?

Yes and yes. Having an adult read to you does count toward the read-a-thon, just remember to record the minutes. Reading to someone else also counts!

Am I limited to 20 minutes of reading each night?

Absolutely not!  If you can, read more than 20 minutes!  Every minute helps.

Do I have to collect sponsorship donations to participate?

Absolutely not. Collecting donations from sponsors is optional. You should still participate in the read-a-thon even if you aren’t collecting sponsored donations.

How can sponsors donate?

Donations are only being collected online this year. To donate or sponsor a reader, please click here.  Questions specifically about donation, please email PFC directly at info@dublinpfc.org.

When is the last date to sponsor a reader?

The last date to sponsor a reader online is Friday, February 23rd.

Are you accepting corporate matching?

No, Dublin Elementary PFC is accepting corporate matching for the 2024 Read-a-thon.

Does reading on the weekend count?

Yes! The reading on the weekend totally counts!  In fact, any reading done outside of school hours counts! Make sure you record it and include in the minutes you write on the football you turn with your homework.

What is a Most Valuable Reader?

In our class, a Most Valuable Reader is a true team player.  The Most Valuable Reader is someone who is reading at least  20 minutes every night, cheers their classmates on, and turns their footballs on time. Two students will be selected as the most Most Valuable Readers. The Most Valuable Readers will be recognized in class.

I'm not so sure about the fundraiser part of read-a-thon. Is there another way I can support the classroom?

I’m glad you asked! Yes! Volunteering for class events and parties, volunteering in our school library, and taking projects home (i.e. gluing memory book pages together) are ways to support the students and the classroom! You can also check out our classroom Wish List.

Anything else?

While the read-a-thon can be a wonderful fundraiser, I cannot stress enough that it is to help foster a student’s love for reading. Pick up a book, a magazine, a newspaper, read with someone, go read cards in the greeting card isle, recruit your family, create an at home competition, visit the public library, fall in love with reading!
