Practicing Spelling at Home

  • Write each spelling word out three times.
  • Practice your spelling words by doing a spelling bee at home!
  • Practice spelling your words by spelling them out loud to someone in the car on the way to school.
  • If you have letter magnets on your refrigerator, move the magnets to spell out your spelling words.
  • Use scrabble letters to spell out your spelling words.
  • Write your spelling words by tracing them out in a sandbox.
  • Write your spelling words by putting rice grains, sprinkles, or salt in cookie sheet to trace out your spelling words. Ask a parent before executing this.
  • Type or text your spelling list out.
  • Make up songs to remember how to the spelling words.
  • Write your spelling list in alphabetical order.
  • Make a word search with your spelling words.
  • Use your spelling list to play hangman.
  • Create a Mad Lib in which you can only use the spelling list to fill it in. There are tons of free Mad Libs online.
  • Get old newspapers and magazines and find letters to collage your spelling words together.
  • Get an adult. They start but putting a letter down first, then pass it to you for the next letter. Go back and forth until the word is complete.
  • Get cereal (or skittles) to spell out your spelling words then enjoy the cereal when you're done!
  • Find or make play dough to mold out your spelling words.
  • If you have letter beads at home, arrange the letters to form your spelling list
  • Write the spelling word out in pencil. Then trace it in highlighter. Trace over that with squeezable liquid glue. Trace over the glue letters with small pieces of yarn.
