Academic Eligibility
In order to try out and participate in athletics, students must:
Earn a 2.0 “C” grade point average on a 4.0 scale in all enrolled classes AND be on track for graduation.
Students must be enrolled in and pass a minimum of 20 semester credits (4 classes).
To be eligible for tryouts, students must maintain a 2.0 during the current tryout quarter.
Only students in grades 10-12 are eligible for a waiver that can be granted for 1 grading period (quarter or semester).
Sophomores are strongly discouraged from using them so they can maintain the ability to use a waiver their junior or senior year. If a student has used a waiver previously, the principal does have the discretion to offer 1 additional waiver for a grading period.
Students should not have more than 1 F; if they are taking 7 classes and have 2 F's they can still get a waiver if they are on track to earn a sufficient number of credits (25 for the term).
If a student is failing 2 out of 6 courses, we do not grant waivers unless there are extenuating circumstances and are still on a viable path towards graduation.
Students must also be on a viable path towards graduation (i.e. not more than 5-10 credits deficient).
OUTSIDE COMPETITION AND SUMMER LEAGUES
CIF rules prohibit participation in non-school teams of the same sport during the season.
School Uniforms may not be worn when students compete at unsanctioned events. (Example: Individual sports like tennis or XC/track may not wear their uniform in a recreational race or USTA match. Teams/Players that compete on off season club teams together may not compete in their school uniform)
See unattached competition bylaws per CIF.
Participation in non-school events renders an athlete ineligible and may lead to contest forfeiture.
Check with the Athletic Director for permissible competitions per NCS and CIF bylaws.
BVAL, NCS, and CIF do not sponsor summer league teams.
Summer participation is allowed but not associated with the above mentioned groups; parents assume full responsibility for expenses and liability.
Transfer Students and Recruitment
Any student transferring between high schools must adhere to CIF transfer bylaws and is considered a "transfer student" under the context of high school athletics. Eligibility must be confirmed prior to participation
Determining Transfer Student Status: A student is considered a transfer student if they have:
Attended classes or participated in athletics at their former school (School A).
Withdrawn from School A and enrolled full-time at a new school (School B).
Students cannot practice or participate in contests at the new school until enrollment standards are met. Dual enrollment at two schools simultaneously is not allowed.
Sitting Out Period: Varsity-level transfer athletes without a change of residence must “sit out” for 50% plus one day of each sport season previously played.
Eligibility Review: All transfer athletes must have their eligibility reviewed by the new school before participating in sports. This includes submitting CIF forms 207 and 510, which require at least 20 business days for processing. Athletes may miss part of the season during this evaluation.
Residency Requirements: Students must live within the Dublin Unified School District or have an approved inter-district transfer and follow district residency and discipline policies.
Recruiting and Ethical Conduct: CIF Bylaw 202.B prohibits providing false information regarding eligibility, while Bylaw 510 prohibits recruiting practices that influence a student's school choice. Violations can lead to severe penalties, including ineligibility for up to 24 months. Report any unethical behavior to the school principal to protect student-athlete eligibility.
The CIF governs high school athletics and emphasizes that participation is a privilege, not a right. Students must meet established eligibility standards to ensure fair competition and maintain the integrity of high school sports.
