David P. Smay, III had an acclaimed 40-year career with Chevron Corporation. He was well-loved and hailed as a leader in every position he held. He resigned as a lieutenant in the US Navy, retired as General Credit Manager and Treasurer for Chevron, and finished his career as a Board Member of the Chevron Retirees Association. He was a true inspiration to all who met him. The DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest, created in 1934, is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. This award recognizes and rewards individuals who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. Once a student is chosen as the DAR Good Citizen the student is invited to participate in the scholarship portion of the program. This consists of a personal statement and a timed essay. Don Biddle was a very giving person and served the Dublin community with honor and grace. In addition to serving on Dublin’s City Council and School Board, he was a board member of the local chapters of the American Cancer Society, YMCA, Dublin Integrity in Action, the Dublin Sister City Association and Habitat for Humanity. Dublin Integrity in Action was founded in 2005 by Dublin Unified School Board Member Randy Shumway, Teacher/Community Member Tim Sbranti and Dublin resident Kendall Cooper. The Dublin Partners in Education proudly offers two scholarships to Dublin Unified School District Seniors, in memory of Edy Coleman, a long time DPIE Board Member and past Board President. Edy was an inspiration to all who knew her and through her dedication to DPIE was able to help thousands of students over many years. She was passionate about education and dedicated over 65 years to helping others. She spoke from the heart and could never say “no” to the educational or spiritual needs of children. Edy will be remembered as a heartfelt friend, a beautiful woman inside and out, and for her selfless dedication to serving the community at large. The Jim Reding Memorial Scholarship is awarded to deserving students from Dublin or Valley High School. The biggest testament to Jim’s teaching could be found in the students he taught. Whether it was making hand-carved gifts like salt and pepper shakers or ball point pens to nitro funny cars and gum ball machines, Jim’s students were constantly engaged, challenged and entertained. Jim’s students left his class learning skills that they probably never imagined they had in them. We are so grateful that Jim’s legacy will continue to live on through the lives of students. The Moldvai Foundation was founded by 2009 Dublin High alumnus, Noel Moldvai, to enable young STEM superstars. After graduation as Valedictorian, he went on to study Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley, where he was a published Astrophysics researcher. He later worked at Google and Microsoft, has multiple patents pending in distributed systems and is currently a Software Architect at Rubrik. As an immigrant, he believes in the power of STEM education to bootstrap confidence in young people of all backgrounds and empower them to be successful. The goal of the Moldvai Scholarship is to support students not just through their first year after high school, but to provide mentorship and networking for the rest of their education and career.
