In Dublin City Schools, we believe that all students deserve a mathematical learning experience centered around communication, collaboration, thinking and problem solving. 

Math workshop focuses on operations, number sense, geometry, measurement and data. Daily instruction and routines incorporate the Common Core Mathematical Practices.

We use Bridges as a resource within our classroom.

Reading workshop includes mini-lessons, guided reading groups, individual reading conferences, independent reading, share, and read alouds.   In first grade there is a strong focus on print concepts, phonics and word recognition, phonological awareness, fluency, comprehension of both fiction and nonfiction text, speaking, listening, vocabulary, and 21st century skills.

This year we have a new literacy curriculum for reading, MyView. Check out this family link for more information. I will be providing more information on this program as we work through each unit.

This includes a mini-lesson, writing time, conferences and sharing.  Some of the writings they will compose this year will include narrative writing, research writing, opinion and informational writing. We will focus on the writing process including prewriting, drafting, obtaining and providing feedback, revising, editing, and publishing.

As 1st grade readers and writers, students will:

-understand that the purpose of spelling is so others can understand their writing.

-know how to look at and use features of print.

-know a large core of high frequency words.

-understand simple and complex letter-sound relationships.

-notice and use patterns in words (how words look, sound, and meaning).

-develop interest in words and spelling.

-use a variety of fluent and efficient word-solving strategies (phonic, visual, and structure)

Dublin has adopted 95 Phonics Core Program which we will be following in 1st grade.
