Students have a special day of the week that is "their day". On this day they have special privileges like computer access, reading buddies, lining up first, etc. This is also their share day during Morning Meeting. On this day they may bring in something small from home to share or just tell us about. It is the same day every week. We really focus and practice our speaking and listening standards during this time.
Homework is minimal in first grade, but is given. Students are expected to do daily reading (Book in a Bag starting in October). Other examples of homework include weekly math practice (starting in a few weeks).

-Students are not allowed to go home on a bus with a friend. Please plan to pick up in the car line if having a playdate directly from school.
-If your child is doing anything differently in terms of getting home, please e-mail me or send a note.
Please let me and the office know if students are going home a different way than usual.
Students complete district assessments at the beginning, middle, and end of each school year in first grade. These include Dibels Reading Assessments, Developmental Spelling Assessment, and the Math MAP tests. The results of the these assessments are used to determine 'On Track, Not on Track' status by the state, serves as the state's required dyslexia screener, and most importantly guides my instruction. Results of these assessments will be shared with parents by fall conferences.
Benchmark assessments over class content occur throughout the school year across content areas. Informal assessments such as observation, answering questions, discussion, and performance on classwork take place on a daily basis.
All of these assessments help me refine my teaching and adjust to meet individual needs.
-Infinite Campus: This is where grades will be posted at the semester and end of the year.
-Bloomz: Daily highlights, important information, signups, and lots of pictures
-Take Home Folders…transport papers to and from school everyday. Two pockets: keep at home and return to school.
-Webpage
-Fall Conferences: October 14 & 15. Signups will be sent out on Bloomz.
-Winter Conferences: Optional, end of February
Room parent signups will be completed by PTO at the beginning of the school year. There will be lots of opportunities to help out throughout the year at classroom parties and PTO school events.
I also have weekly parents volunteers in our room. I will send out the first signup for October soon. After the first month signup, I will send out the signups on the first day of each month, 1 month in advance.
Volunteers must have a background check. Link to background check: securevolunteer.com/Dublin-City-Schools/home

At Depp we have a “No food” policy for birthday celebrations. We still LOVE to celebrate birthdays! Below are some ideas for birthday celebrations that are not a food item.
Small party favors
Donating a book to the classroom library/school library
Donating a recess game
Choose to have extra recess that day
Extra read aloud time
*Summer birthdays can celebrate on their “half birthday”, just let me know if that is something your child wants to do.
If sending in party invitations, please send for either all the girls, all the boys, or the whole class. If not, please find an alternate way to send out your invitations.
