Theatre I is a practical, hands-on introduction to acting and stage conventions. Basic acting and stage movement, terminology, character development, script analysis, and scene preparation are addressed. The historical and literary aspects of drama are overviewed. Students take part in a presentation of skills acquired at the end of the semester consisting of small scenes and monologues. Students are encouraged to participate in the Drama Club productions. Open to all grades.
Theatre II stresses more advanced acting techniques as well as a deep dive into the historical aspects of theatre throughout the centuries as well as global perspectives are overviewed. Members of the class will produce a one-act showcase at the end of the semester. Students are encouraged to participate in the Drama Club productions.
Prerequisite: Theatre I
Theatre III compliments the preceding two courses by offering students the opportunity to improve their performing skills in an ensemble environment. The primary thrust of the class is to rehearse, produce, and perform two shows as part of the Drama Club season each year. Open to grades 10-12.
Prerequisites: Theatre I, Theatre II, and audition
Theatre Tech & Design students will receive a broad overview of the various areas that encompass theatrical design. These areas include, but are not limited to: specific terminology, lighting, set design, script analysis, stage mechanics, hands-on tool experience and safety, costuming and props,. Further training in Drama Club productions will comprise part of the course work, as well as creating original designs. Students are encouraged to participate as a part of the technical crew. Open to grades 9 through 12.
