Math

Math Workshop consists of the following components: opener, mini-lesson, practice (independent and collaborative) and reflection. The 8 Mathematical Practices are incorporated throughout math workshop (see button below). Topics and units will be communicated through weekly parent emails and Google Classroom.

Science and Social Studies

Science is presented to learners using an inquiry model which includes: fostering inquiry, collaborative learning, and reflection. Topics in fifth grade include: introducing the design process, ecosystems, solar system, light and sound, and force and motion.

Social studies in fifth grade is introduced using inquiry/problem based curriculum. Topics include: geography and the early civilizations in the western hemisphere, immigration brings change to the western hemisphere, and the western hemisphere today.
