ALL ASSIGNMENTS FOR RLA 8th GRADE CLASSES MUST BE SUBMITTED BY TUESDAY, MAY 25!
*Note: Building Principals will be sending emails to students and parents with updated information. We will do our best to reflect those details as soon as possible here, too!
Awards Assemblies
Grizzell's RLA 8th Grade Awards Ceremony will be Wednesday, 5/26 &
Karrer's RLA 8th Grade Awards Ceremony will be Thursday, 5/27.
The following applies to the awards assemblies at BOTH GMS & KMS:
Students are to arrive at their respective buildings at 8:30 AM & should report to the GYM upon arrival.
Awards Ceremony will begin at 9:00 AM & will last approximately 1 hour.
Parents will need to provide transportation to and from school for the awards ceremony if the student wishes to attend.
Drop off is around 8:30 AM
Pick up will be approximately 10-10:30 AM.
If the parents are watching the ceremony online, they can plan to drive to the school at the conclusion of the streaming event.
We will also encourage students to text/call parents once the ceremony is over and they can turn their phones back on.
If your child RSVP-ed to their ELA or SS teacher has changed, THAT IS TOTALLY FINE! The RSVP was to give teachers an idea about how many students to expect. We would LOVE for all students to come to the awards and/or to the 8th grade event so that we can met everyone in person!
Both GMS and KMS have split their award ceremonies so that RLA will have their own, separate assembly. RLA students are invited to attend, but parents will not be able to come into the building for any of the awards ceremonies.
Both awards assemblies will be live-streamed so that parents, family members, and friends can watch from where ever they are in the world. Building principals will be sending the link to watch the ceremony online by Tuesday, 5/25 (for GMS) and by Wednesday, 5/26 (for KMS), which are the days before each respective ceremony.
Due to the RLA staff attending the awards ceremonies for BOTH GMS & KMS, there will be no RLA classes on these days (Wednesday, 5/26 or Thursday, 5/27).
For KMS students, that means a day "off" on Wednesday, 5/26.
For GMS students, that means a day "off" on Thursday, 5/27.
Students are encouraged to dress up for this event. Please consider wearing something you would to go to a religious event, graduation, wedding, or family party. If you have any questions about this, please ask!
8th Grade Event
Both buildings will have their 8th grade events on Friday, 5/28 in the morning; all 8th graders are invited to attend in their respective buildings.
GMS - Parents can pick up their 8th grader at the football field at 11:30.
KMS - Parents can meet their 8th grader at the football field at 11:30. Parents, please see Mrs. Menduni's email about where to line up at the football field.
Students will keep their Chromebooks over the summer & will swap them out for an updated one in the Fall. Details about this exchange will be coming when it gets closer to the beginning of the 21-22 school year.
The last day of RLA 8th Grade Classes will be Tuesday, May 25.
All student work must be submitted on Tuesday, May 25 by the end of the school day in order to be factored into the 4th quarter grades.
Due to awards ceremonies and the 8th grade event between the two buildings, no live classes will happen for 8th graders on Wednesday (5/26), Thursday (5/27), or Friday (5/28).
Here is an overview of the last week of school in 8th grade RLA:
Note: the 6th & 7th grade RLA schedules are slightly different from this; please see their respective websites for additional information about their end of the year activities!
May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
Here are some slides / clips that will be shared with students through their ELA class (GMS students) or SS class (KMS students).
Chromebooks
8th graders will be swapping their current Chromebooks for a new, updated one in the Fall of 2021. Please take good care of the current one over the summer and be ready to upgrade it in the fall!
