Hi! My name is Erin Mattis, and I am very excited to teach RLA PE for the Spring semester. My email is mattis_erin@dublinschools.net. My google meet nickname is: meetmrsmattis
We started off the quarter with making"SMART" goals. (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Bound) Currently, we are in the middle of our yoga unit. The students are learning and practicing 15 basic poses they can use for strength, flexibility, and stress relief. I will be introducing all kinds of cardio and strength workouts throughout the quarter. We will also have a unit on racquet sports. All of the notes from our classes can be found on my Schoology page.
This week we will be trying Tae Bo! Every Friday we will have a fun workout that we do together interactively. Mr. Wilkinson joined us for the dice workout last week! I hope the kids had as much fun as we did!
My "SMART" goal is to keep your kids active while meeting the standards for the 9 week grading period in a fun and friendly environment. I hope to teach them something new along the way as well! Virtual PE can be challenging, especially when cameras and microphones are off, so I encourage class participation as much as possible! For example, if they are typing in the google meets chat, I know they are not exercising! They know I am watching!
Looking forward to a great quarter! Go Celts!

I hope your kids are enjoying PE as much as I am! We did another interactive workout using cards, and tomorrow our interactive workout will be using the alphabet. This week we did "Just Dance" and had so much fun! On Monday, January 25th, I will be introducing our juggling unit. Please check my Schoology page for easy ideas so your kids are prepared and have something safe to juggle with.
We will be learning rules and scoring for tennis, badminton, and pickle ball over the next couple of weeks. I will combine the lectures with some exercises so the kids do not have to sit the entire period. Please encourage your child to practice their yoga poses, as they will be making a flipgrid next month so I can assess their progress.
I hope your child shared their "SMART" goal with you and that they are logging their progress!
You will be receiving a self-addressed stamped envelope from me in the mail very soon, I asked the students to draw me colorful pictures of activities that they like to do. I will be using these pictures to decorate my office (and possibly the hallways) at the school.
As always, I encourage your kids to turn on their cameras and/or microphones so I know they are following along and participating in the workouts.
Have a great weekend! Go Celts!
