Student Government Association Officer

Become part of change and lead the new college wide Student Government Association in the new academic year.

SGA Officers help lead new initiatives for the college, inspire other students to succeed, and influence college decisions by serving on a variety of committees. 


The mission of the SGA is to:


The SGA supports unity, teamwork, diversification, acknowledgement and adherence to Delaware Technical and Community College’s mission, vision, and values, and a mutual respect and a dedication to the positive development of each and every individual.


In order to run for an office with SGA, students needs to have completed 12 college level credits, and have a cumulative Delaware Tech GPA of 2.5 or higher.    First semester students, who may not have earned credits or an established a GPA at the college, are eligible to apply for the member at large position.  If elected, the members at large will be required to have earned at least 12 credits and a minimum 2.5 GPA following the first semester in order to remain in the position

Learn about SGA Officer Roles and Responsibilities

President: The SGA president shall have the right to conduct meetings and will preside over all general meetings. The President may set date, time and location for all SGA meetings and provide notice to the student body. The President shall create the SGA agenda with the assistance of the SGA advisor. The President may be responsible to serve on several campus wide committees as outlined in the Collegewide Constitution. The SGA President will be responsible for a variety of duties outlined by the SGA advisor and collegewide SGA Constitution and will attend campus administrative council meetings.  The President can not serve as an officer in any other club or organization.  

Vice President: The Vice President shall substitute for the President at any meetings which the President is unable to attend and assume all of the responsibilities of the SGA President in absentia. The Vice President may act as chairperson of the Election Committee. The Vice President may be responsible to serve on several campus wide committees as outlined in the Collegewide Constitution. The SGA Vice President will be responsible for a variety of duties outlined by the SGA advisor and Collegewide SGA Constitution.  The Vice President is appointed to a collegewide committee to serve as a the voice of the students.  

Treasurer: The Treasurer is the officer entrusted with the custody of the SGA funds. The Treasurer is required to make a full financial report annually, and to make such interim reports as the assembly or executive board may direct. The Treasurer will keep financial records neat and up-to-date, encourage systematic savings; assist in preparing an annual statement (proposed budget) of estimated receipts and expenditures; and protect the financial reputation of the organization be seeing that all its financial obligations are met promptly. The SGA Treasurer will be responsible for a variety of duties outlined by the SGA advisor and Collegewide SGA Constitution and will serve on the campus budget committee. 

Secretary:   The Secretary shall be next in line of succession after the Treasurer. The Secretary shall record and present minutes of any meeting as outlined in the Collegewide Constitution. The minutes shall be distributed to the other executive members, the SGA advisor, The Dean of Student Affairs and copies may be provided to any student upon request. The SGA Secretary will be responsible for a variety of duties outlined by the SGA advisor and Collegewide SGA Constitution.  The Secretary attends the Student Life Collaboration Group meetings on a regular basis during the semesters.  

Member At Large (2 positions per campus): Members at large are elected members of the student body with the job to present to the SGA the views of their constituents on all matters pertaining to student life.   Members at large are to promote and encourage student participation in campus activities and to disseminate information from SGA meetings to their representative population.  Members at large will be expected to attend all campus SGA meetings and attend student life events throughout the semester.  First semester students, who may not have earned credits or an established a GPA at the college, are eligible to apply for this position.  If elected, the members at large will be required to have earned at least 12 credits and a minimum 2.5 GPA following the first semester in order to remain in the position.
