How to apply?
In order to apply for admission to the MAP-tele, please consider the following guidelines carefully and make sure that you have met all requirements when you submit your application. Prospective students should prepare:
A motivation letter (in English) detailing, in a succinct but clear way, your academic and professional background as well as your motivation and objectives for pursuing PhD studies in Telecommunications. Your letter should be specific in describing your interests and motivations. When describing your research interests, you should explain why you think they are important areas of study and why you are particularly well-suited to pursuing them.
A detailed curriculum vitae: outline your education, research experience, work experience, publications, scholarships awarded, prizes and honours received, society memberships, and any other extracurricular activities. Include information about your fluency in written and spoken English. It should include your full name, photograph, postal address, e-mail address, nationality, and country of residence.
Three recommendation letters: recommenders should know you relatively well and be able to evaluate the quality of your previous work. At least two of the letters should be from faculty or recent employers. Letters should be signed and sent directly by the recommenders to maptele@fe.up.pt. Three recommendation letters are mandatory, a penalty applies in case less than three letters are provided. Paper recommendations will not be accepted.
One transcript for each university degree mentioned in your resume. Please provide transcript of grades also and transcripts of any certificate of English proficiency, such as TOEFL, IELTS or Cambridge Proficiency examination.
The curriculum vitae must include a clear description of the grades system in the country of the university awarding the degree, as well as an explanation on how to convert grades obtained by the applicant into a 0-100% scale.
Fluency in written and spoken English, preferably certified by a TOEFL, IELTS or Cambridge Proficiency examination, is an admission criterion.
IMPORTANT: In the case of qualifications awarded abroad, the documents should be authenticated by the official educational body of the respective country and recognized by the Portuguese diplomatic authorities, or Portuguese consular authorities, or carry the apostille of The Hague Convention. The same applies to translations of documents not originally written in Spanish, French, or English (translation into one of these languages is mandatory).
