Course Description:
Math 7 is a full-year course that meets every day for a double period. This course emphasizes computation and solving equations with the four basic operations of rational numbers; writing, evaluating, and solving ratio, proportion, and percent problems supplemented by their practical applications; understanding the fundamental concepts of geometry; using formulas to determine perimeter, circumference, area, and volume; graphing points on the coordinate plane; and probability. Students who show strong and consistent high performance in this course may be recommended for Algebra I in grade eight.
Course Goals: (1) To prepare students for Pre-algebra and Algebra 1. (2) For students to demonstrate comprehension and application of the above topics. (3) To cover the PA state standards and anchors for 7th grade mathematics.
Grading/Evaluation:
75% of the student’s grade will be based on test and quiz scores.
Quizzes – Units will be broken down into smaller sections and quizzes/graded assignments will be given frequently throughout each quarter to determine understanding of concepts and to prepare for chapter tests.
Tests –Tests will be given at the end of each unit. Review problems/practice tests will always be given in advance and then reviewed as a class prior to every test date. Students are encouraged to utilize the reviews and practice tests to prepare for the actual test—which will be very similar in concept and format.
25 % Homework/IXL/Class Preparation/Class Work/ Class Participation
Homework
Because math is a double period, homework SHOULD be completed in class. Homework worksheets will be checked and graded for completion and best effort.
Each homework assignment will be assigned 1 point.
IXL Assignments
Each section assigned is worth 2 points with a certain completion percentage depending on level of difficulty.
There will be at least one IXL per topic covered in class
With the extra time, there will be other activities planned that may or may not be scored. All students are expected to be active participants.
Supply List:
Students will need the following for class:
1.5or 2 inch binder
pencils! (no pens for math class)
Divider tabs
charged Chromebook DAILY!!
Other Information:
*Homework assignments and upcoming test dates will be posted in the Google Classroom.
*Grades will be updated weekly on CSIU.
* If you want to see what your child is missing, check CSIU, NOT the Google Classroom. Everything appears as missing on the Google Classroom.
*Missed Work: Students should see the teacher in advance if they know they will be absent. After an absence, students should check the Google Classroom to get any missed assignments.
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT:
