The decision to utilize a FID will be announced via the automated calling/text system and via local media. Please be sure your contact information is is updated in DSD's automated calling/text system as needed.
Faculty and students do not report to campus during a FID (similar to a traditional “snow day").
A FID will only be used when the district determines one will be used. There may be times when school is closed and a FID is not used. Traditional make-up days remain an option. When the district needs to close school and chooses to use a FID it will be clearly communicated to all students and parents.
Student attendance is monitored on a FID as required by PDE (Pennsylvania Department of Education). Parents are asked to send an excuse if their child cannot participate on a FID due to medical or other reasons students are typically absent from school.
Yes. PDE requires that the lessons and assignments are assessed as if they were being completed on a typical school day.
Parents/caregivers who notify the district of this need will be provided paper versions of lessons and assignments. Parents/Caregivers who need alternative versions of assignments should contact their child's teacher or principal.
In these rare cases, students will have 3 days to make-up assignments from the FID.
Teachers will be available via DSD email on a FID. Students should attempt all assignments. In rare cases when students are unable to complete assignments, students will have 3 days to make-up assignments upon return to school.
Yes. Students will be expected to complete lessons for each class they are scheduled for as if the FID were a typical day.
Many students with IEPs will participate in FIDs as they do a typical school day. A separate communication regarding students with IEPs will be delivered to parents with children with special needs.
