Thank you for looking into our PTO Library Volunteer Program! Library Volunteers are assigned specific dates and times to assist with library classes. Volunteers check in library books, shelve library books, straighten shelves, assist with events like RIF and Book Fair, and check out library books to students.
If you are interested please know:
You are awesome! Volunteers allow the librarian to have more time with lessons and assisting students!
You must be a member of the PTO and have all of your required clearances (see below)
You will be trained at your first class but due to time issues viewing the youtube video below will helpful to you!
Please refrain from wearing perfumes and strong fragrances due to asthma concerns.
Please, if you are unsure how to shelve a specific book leave it or ask the staff.
Shelve carefully so students and staff can use the OPAC (catalog) to easily locate books.
As a DSD volunteer you are not to discuss behaviors, students, and specific situations outside of the library.
If you are unable to attend your volunteer session (totally understandable!) you may try to contact others Volunteers in your class as someone else may be interested, or contact the library via email or phone to give a heads-up. Knowing in advance (even a few minutes before) allows staff to adjust the lesson or check out process to account for no volunteer. This is not a requirement, but we do greatly appreciate it if you are able.

Please ask if you need any additional training with shelving or using the computer as students so we can work together to keep the library in proper order for the students.
