SWC COURSES

Course availability is based on the number of student requests; courses may be cancelled and alternates added.  Consequently, it is very important that students make deliberate and informed choices when completing their Course Plan.  CHOOSE ONCE, CHOOSE WISELY.

·         Grade  9   =   8 courses

·         Grade 10   =   8 courses

·         Grade 11    =   8 courses

·         Grade 12   =   3 or 4 courses per semester

Course Plans for SWC Gr. 9, 10, 11 students will be completed and electronically submitted, through XELLO, in February  2024.

No paper copies & no signatures.  The electronic submission of your Course Plan indicated student and parent/guardian approval of the courses requested for next year.

Students might also consider registering for a course via eLearning (click here for the LINK) , over the summer (click here for the LINK), or through an educational opportunity beyond the walls of SWC and DSBN (click here for the LINK) .

The type of courses you select are dependent on many factors, including the student’s interests, abilities, and goals.

Students who request a "reach ahead" course in their Gr. 10/11 year are reminded that they will be rescheduled (an alternate course from the Course Plan will be added, OR a course that fits the hole in the TT)  if a seat is required for a student who is in that grade cohort.

Course Plan Considerations:

Gr. 9: Academic or Applied compulsory courses in Gr. 10? Remember, consider your Pathway and your Performance. Ministry & board descriptions explaining course types can be found on the SWC website - Guidance - SWC Courses subsite.or click here

Art and Phys. Ed. (and Tech for 2028 cohort onwards) credit compulsory credit (if you didn't take it this year, select it for next year)

Gr. 10:  Art & Phys. Ed. addressed, right? Peek ahead to what you might need to take in Gr. 12 and if it requires a Gr. 11 prerequisite course, select it for next year.  How will you know what you need for Gr. 12?  Research degrees and diplomas.  As well, look at those Group 1,2,3 requirements - are you covered?

Gr. 11:  Research your exit plan! Ensure that you will have all 18 required and 12 elective credits PLUS any specific courses required for post-secondary programs of interest.

When registering for a credit course outside of SWC, students are reminded to connect with the Guidance department, and to provide a copy of the final report card, so that the credit can be added to the student's transcript and Graduation Summary.
