Work Experience and Career Exploration

Experiencing the world of work and career exploration is a significant milestone for Transition Year students. DGS provides comprehensive guidance through weekly classes with Ms Keane, guest speakers from diverse workplace environments, and organized visits to third-level colleges and universities. Students build practical career skills through hands-on initiatives like the Careers Carousel, Mini Company projects, and by completing an end of year TY interview which includes CV building and interview preparation. There are also optional activites like the  SEPI programme, working with charities, and the DGS Trade Fair to further enhance their real world experiences. 

For the 2026-2027 school year we have 3 blocks of work experience:

Block 1: 30 Nov- 04 December

Block 2: 8-12 February

Block 3: 5th -9th April

The school will need to know in advance details about the placements that the students secure and an update from the employer on how they got on. This information will be used for school records and will be part of the students' reflections and portfolios. 

If a student has been offered an Additional Work Experience or Another Learning Opportunity outside of the allocated blocks please read the documents below and contact the TY Coordinator.

It is important to note that students will not be able to contact outside organisations using their @droghedagrammarschool.ie email address. They will need to provide their own email address or that of a parent/guardian.
