Our second year have made multiple artworks to the school all of which are diverse and unique in their own way. They've worked hard to accomplish these art pieces and they did so to prepare for the next year for Junior Cert. Here are some examples of their artwork.
Hot and cold portraits
We've explored lots of new media this year, and for this project we tackled the sometimes tricky media chalk pastel. We threw in a bit of colour theory comparing hot and cool colours and we here are the results!
Self portraits
Our first self portrait project focused on the head in profile. This was our first time using oil pastel.
We contrasted these realistic portraits with some experimentation with Zentangle design
Hot and cold self portraits
Step 1 was to take photographs which could be used. We projected red light from one side and blue from the other.
Using chalk pastel
Using a limited palette, of blue and red
Choosing a ground
A ground is the name for whatever you draw or paint on. We chose black to contrast with the strong colours.
Science Week
The lads were busy with a bit of cross-curricular work during science week
Creating some exciting typography based on Science.
Mixing images and lettering with great results
The second years got involved in lots of cross curricular work this year. During Seachtain Na Gaeilge we made some interesting lettering for above the classrooms.

Second Year Lino prints
Our CBAs are based on the themes Grotesque and Out of Place.
After a visit to the Natural history museum where we did lots of primary source drawings. These combined with a little imagination resulted in these really interesting lino prints.
