Competitive Edge

What is Competitive Edge

During second semester of the 2019-2020 school year it got cut early and some of the classes had to be changed, the competitive edge class is to replace what would have been the Work Based Learning course, the goal of that course is to have students get hands on work experience into potential work places of the students choices.

Career Goals

In 2017 I came to the conclusion that I wanted a career that had something to do with sports, whether or not that's as an athlete or something else , but I was unsure about the other part. It took about half the year for me to come to the conclusion that writing and talking about sports is my passion. From that point on, my scholastic ideals had begun to change from just wanting to be an athlete to also becoming educated on everything in the world of sports with the least amount of bias possible.

From a young age I had a unique way with words and my upbringing around those who were much older than me forced me to not only use my words to communicate any issue that I had but to grow up and move the silly childish thing to the back of the photo. I am able to mesh with people of all age groups just from one conversation which for a high school student it seems to be kind of rare.

The goal that I hope to be an example to a community of people that look like me and feel as if they can make it to the big stages doing what they love and be able to still use there voice for change and become better as a community.

To enter a career in sports journalism a Bachelor's degree is necessary, but a master's degree beneficial and can send you further along in the field. The degree type would need to be Journalism or communications and some type of minor to focus in on sports. The best experience for this type of job would be writing and researching stories through internships or college newspapers.

Podcast Number 2

Below is a link to my google document filled with research for my podcast with Mr. Wilborn. It covers all rangers of major American sports. Over the course of 2 months I had constant meetings with Mr. Wilborn talking about sports and breaking my way into the sports journalism field . Which led towards an invitation to be on his podcast to get my foot in the door. To the right of the document is the audio from that podcast we recorded together
