In my AP Language class, after reading Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson, we conducted research on Social Justice issues of our choice to create argumentative papers and creative tasks. For my topic, I chose Gentrification because the rate of the displacement in Atlanta is rapidly growing. Throughout my research, I discovered the rate of gentrification in Atlanta because it the 5th most gentrifying city in the us according to the guardian. The most interesting thing that I found was most how many in the homeless population actually live on the street as seen in the 2019 census. We were also visited by Natalyn Archibong, our Atlanta City Council Representative who shared some insights on how these issues are affecting our city and what is being done about it.

After research was concluded, we wrote in depth argumentative papers on the subject. My final position for the paper was Gentrification not only takes advantage of people in poor areas. I supported this position through arguing how the media makes a huge impacts on how people view gentrification and citing research such as east lake community neighbors in need. To complete the project, we were tasked with creating a STEAM product that represented the concepts in my paper and my position.
