Food insecurity deeply impacts culture and identity by making it difficult for individuals and families to access traditional foods that are central to their heritage. This can lead to a loss of cultural practices, shared meals, and rituals passed down through generations. Over time, it may cause people to feel disconnected from their roots and community, affecting how they see themselves and their place in the world.
For our class project, in groups of 4-5, we were asked to create unique recipes inspired by our personal cultures and design recipe cards to showcase them. My group composed of Krista, Aaliyah, Jackson, and myself. I added Amaretti cookies, an Italian cookie, into my recipe, "Ganache Plantains." As part of the project, we created detailed recipe cards using Canva to present our dishes and their cultural significance. The QR code on the Recipe Card leads you to a video recorded by my group, explaining our recipe and process.

A. How does food play a role in culture and identity
B. Identify and briefly describe a social issue today that is related to food. What is it, who does it impact, why is it important, what are some solutions?
A. Food can reflect cultural traditions and identity by connecting people with their heritage through what, how, and when they eat. It shows the values and history of a culture, and the way people prepare and enjoy food can help keep those traditions alive across generations.
