This year in my Spanish 2 class we have discussed many different topics, including food, the home, and holiday traditions. We focus on conversation skills and I definitely improving! My goal for Spanish is to be able to speak it fluently, I would like to travel to Spanish speaking countries and have conversations with native speakers.
In our first semester, we had 3 units. The first was an introductory unit, the second was about "la comida", food, and the third was about "la casa", the house. In each class, we took notes and wrote down vocabulary terms. To learn and memorize the information, we typically use resources like Quizlet (live), dreaming Spanish (YouTube channel), and zoom polls. We've also used resources like Duolingo, Nearpod, and Padlet.
In our second semester, we had 3 more units. Unit 4 was about el Año Nuevo (The New Year), unit 5 was about los deportes y los pasatiempos (sports and hobbies), and unit 6 was about los viajes (traveling). Like last semester, we used Quizlet and Quizlet live, dreaming Spanish, duolingo, and nearpod to enhance our Spanish skills, learn and memorize the information. We also used El Taller, or The Workshop, (listed below) to enhance our reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in preparation for our STAMP test.
To the left you will find my Day of the Dead assignment. In this assignment we had to make an ofrenda to honor someone special who passed away. Ofrendas are homemade altars filled with things that honor and represent the person who passed. This can include things they owned and liked. I chose to make an ofrenda on the actor Chadwick Boseman, and to represent him I used a briefcase, the black panther mask, and a baseball bat. This is because his biggest roles were as Black Panther, Thurgood Marshall, and Jackie Robinson. I also included a basketball because one of his hobbies was playing basketball.
El Taller is a recurring assignment that we had in Spanish 2. This assignment allowed us to "spot-treat" our Spanish skills. We were able to specifically work on reading, writing, listening, speaking, or general practice. We did this assignment multiple times in order to strengthen our weaker skills so that we would be prepared for our stamp test.
In this assignment, I created a google slides presentation to showcase the perfect hobby (el pasatiempo perfecto). I stated what my perfect hobby is, and detailed who I participate in this hobby with, when I do it, and where I do it. In this assignment, I also worked on speaking as I answered the questions verbally rather than typing the answers.
