During my 11th grade school year, I played the violin in the pit for my school's rendition of The WIz. It was a very fun experience learning more challenging, non-classical music. This was my first time playing in an non-classical, non-orchestral ensemble and it was really cool hearing the different instruments work together to create a wonderful soundtrack.
I performed my violin for the residents of the Arbor Terrace at Cascade Assisted Living Facility. It was a fun experience being able to share my love for music with them. I performed "Best Part" by H.E.R. and Daniel Caesar and "Overjoyed" by Stevie Wonder, which they were overjoyed to hear.
During my 10th, 11th, and 12th grade years, I participated in the rigorous Spivey Hall High School Chamber Honors Orchestra Workshop. It is a two-day workshop in which we rehearsed challenging repertoire in sectionals and as a full orchestra. We performed in the renowned Spivey Hall for parents and guests. Each year that I've participated has been amazing and eye-opening. I greatly enjoyed working with high school orchestra students from across the state of Georgia, as it gave me a more complete view of the skill levels in my age range. Seeing people my age that performed better than me gave me new goals to work towards, fueling my competitive spirit.
