Borax is a type of salt. It's a colorless crystalline solid that dissolves in water. Its chemical formula is Na₂H₂₀B₄O₁₇. We used hot water in order for the solution to become supersaturated, which means it will absorb more of the solute. As the water cools. the solution will harden and form crystals around the sculpture. My sculpture is dynamic because the pipe cleaners wrap around themselves multiple times, and have four bumps forming a butterfly.

This year, I have learned about the structure of an atom in both science class and art.
I have demonstrated the elements of art through patterns when making my mandala.
To show my process, I took pictures.
I have learned about Seurea and his stippling.

Mandala Reflection
The electron configuration integrates STEAM. (Science) We based this project on an element and used the electron rings to design our project. (Technology) We made a slide show explaining what we learned and showing our progress (see learning journal). (Engineering) We had to design a structure of rings and cut out paper very precisely. (Art) We used watercolor to paint designs on our rings. (Math) We had to measure the different parts of the configuration in order for it to work correctly. In our world history class, we talked about different religious symbols that we then included in our project. In our science class, we learned how to find the electron configuration of an element. We also talked about ancient civilizations and their architecture/symbols in geometry. This project has made me better at connecting art and science. Overall, this project was very enjoyable and successful. I enjoyed using my creative side with the watercolor paints. All our designs and color pallets look great, but if I could change one thing about our project, I’d make our color pallets more complementary. If I was the teacher, I’d make my students make their design and then pick out their colors rather than vise versa.
What is Art?
Art to me is a form of expression of creativity. Often times art has a message or hidden meaning. Art can inspire, or change a persons perspective on something. The viewer is meant to feel something when looking at the piece. Art reflects the artist's opinion.

Test: Ask a partner which of your three compositions is the most successful in creating movement that carries the viewer’s eye around the slide. Why?
Answer: My first because it’s the most creative and has a focal point and lines

Test: Ask a partner which of your three compositions is the most successful in creating movement that carries the viewer’s eye around the slide. Why?
Answer: My first because it’s the most creative and has a focal point and lines
Evaluate: Think about how you set up a science experiment and gather data. In what ways was this activity similar to or different from a science experiment?
Answer: Trial and error.

Mandala Research
Mandalas are intricate designs traditionally made out of sand that are used to worship deities. Mandalas are used in Buddism and Hinduism which were popular religions founded in ancient China and the Indus River Valley civilizations. Some principles of design that can be seen in mandalas are pattern, rhythm, repetition, and balance. We can use mandalas to show an atom by using certain patterns to represent the subatomic particles.
