The Most Heroic Step of Sundiata’s Journey
A hero is someone who is selfless, persistent, and humble. Sundiata, the king who founded the empire of Mali, never stopped selflessly caring for his people and inspired others to be kind to each other. He also never declined help and learned from his past experiences because he knows that there is always room for improvement. He also doesn’t believe that he is above, and/or better than others. The most heroic part of Sundiata’s story was when he killed the sorcerer king. Killing the sorcerer king displayed persistence and selflessness; because despite how difficult the task was, he continued to fight for his people’s safety. Sundiata did not fight alone though. He fought beside the men that were inspired by him. He was not arrogant and excepted help from others, showing how humble he was.
To begin, during the war between Sundiata and the sorcerer king, he continued to fight even though the sorcerer king was so difficult to defeat for the better for his people. The sorcerer king appeared to be invincible when Sundita’s speer did not affect him. Then, Sundiata’s griot gave him an arrow with a rooster’s spur attached to it in order to win the battle. Despite Sundiata’s multiple failed attempts to defeat the sorcerer king, he did not give up. When none of his ideas were working, he listened to his griot displaying a humble and open mind resulting in him winning the war. A true hero is humble because they are not afraid of failure, which is the only way people can improve. A hero needs to persistently want to improve in order to help people in a more affective and efficient way.
Additionally, during the battle against the sorcerer king, Sundiata fought face to face with his enemy. This action is most definitely selfless. Sundiata did not hide behind the scene and make others fight for him. Sundiata jeopardized his safety in order to protect others. This was especially selfless because even though he knew the danger he was entering, his need to protect his people overcame his fears and doubts. Putting others before you is a form of lifting each other up. By doing so, you can make the world a kinder and safer place for everyone. Therefore, Sundiata was actively making the world better during this battle, making him an important hero.
Sundiata was not a one hit wonder. Throughout his life, he never stopped helping people. He was persistent and always persevered through challenges. This was displayed most clearly during the battle against the sorcerer king. Sundiata threw a spear at the sorcerer king, but it bounced right off of him. He was shocked at how this was possible, but he did not give up. He shot the rooster spur arrow at him, which robbed him of his powers. He followed the evil king until Sundiata was sure he could not cause any more destruction. Despite his failed attempts, Sundiata would not stop until he was confident that his people were no longer in danger. This act was heroic because he persevered through the obstacles of the battle for the greater good.
On the other hand, some people may argue that Sundiata was not truly heroic because he did not work for his gifted super strength. When Sundiata was a child, he could not walk or talk until one day when he used a very heavy iron rod to stand and proceeded to rip a baobab tree out of the ground with his bear hands. Even though he was gifted super strength, he received his power for a reason. The prophecy about Sundiata stated that he would be the best king to ever live, but when he failed to talk and walk before the age of seven, people started to have doubts. Due to this, he had many obstacles in life. In fact, he was not handed much in life. He was gifted his powers because he was heroic, he was not heroic because of them. Therefore, his powers were simply a reward for his heroism.
In summation, Sundiata is the epitome of a hero because he is selfless, persistent, and humble. Battling the sorcerer king proved his heroism because of the display these attributes. More people should read Sundiata because this story teaches that kindness and selflessness will make the world a better place.

Science Assignment #1 Newton's Rockets
How did you build the rocket? We followed a YouTube tutorial to create our rocket. First we taped a few straws to the side of a plastic bottle for balance. Then we filled it half way with vinegar, leaving space for the other ingredient. Next, we put baking soda in a square of single ply toilet paper and tightly rolled it up into a ball. We then taped the baking soda ball to a cork. We took our rocket outside, put the cork on the bottle, flipped it over, and shook it. The only differences between our rocket and the one in the video were that, in the video they used pencils instead of straws, and we also used more straws then the sugessted amount. Our rocket did not go very high up, but it still worked. It would have worked better if we shook the bottle more and possibly added more baking soda.
Science Assignment #2 Newton's Cradle
How did you build Newtons cradle? We followed a YouTube tutorial to create our cradle. First, we cut a few strings that were the same size. Then, we glued marbles to each one. We then built cube like structure to hang the marbles from. We balanced them in a row, at an equal height in order for them to have unity so the motion of the marbles wouldn't be messed up. When the front marble hit the others, the force transferred to each marble causing the last marble to lift up on its own.
