For this project, I explored the true cost of fast fashion by researching my thrifted outfit. My outfit included a galaxy jacket, a Star Wars beanie, and red Santa Claus pants. All three items were made in China. I learned that making clothing can use a lot of water and energy and create waste and pollution. Clothing production can also involve low wages and difficult working conditions for workers. Since my clothes were made in China, they also had to be transported a long distance before reaching stores. What surprised me most was how much goes into making clothes that seem simple or inexpensive. This project changed the way I think about fashion because I now understand the importance of thrifting, reusing clothes, and thinking about where my clothes come from.
