During this project we learned about ancient civilizations in not only Literature but World History as well.
In world history we learned about ancient civilizations like China, Egypt, Mesopotamia, and Rome. In World Literature we read epic poems written in the times of some of our ancient civilizations.
For our project we created a short historical film using our narrative writing skills as well as our research about Mali, our selected civilization. I worked with Cyrus, Marley, David, and Eliot. we worked filming in the field behind the auditorium. We used props like swords and used the costumes with the more traditional west African clothing associated with our civilization. To record we used the iPad and microphones provided in class, and used cap cut to edit and add effects.
How can we use narrative writing—through plot, characterization, and other storytelling techniques—to showcase the achievements and cultural legacies of ancient civilizations in ways that help us appreciate and preserve the diverse cultures that shape our world today?
We can use narrative writing to showcase the achievements and cultural legacies of ancient civilizations by telling the stories of these civilizations in a more imaginative light. There are so many stories about these civilizations that nobody would really know unless being taught or told about them. There are so many things that you can learn about in these types of projects and things that you can remember.
This activity was used to start brainstorming Ideas for our short film. There were different prompts we were given on a document and were told to create a story line based off of these prompts.
This is our final edited video. David and Eliot were tasked with editing the video. Eliot edited all of the clips, added voiceovers, and transitions. David added special effects.
During this project I was able to learn a lot not just of my own civilization but also many others. While doing the research for this project, I was able to demonstrate my teamwork skills, as well as leadership. If I could change anything about this project I would say that my group needed to work on better time management. Overall I enjoyed this project and was able to learn a lot.
