The Girl Who Kept Going is a coming-of-age story about Maya, a teenage girl trying to balance high school life while dealing with a toxic and emotionally draining home environment. As she faces constant tension with her mother, Maya learns to stay strong and keep pushing forward, finding support in her younger brother Jayden and her boyfriend Amarion. Over time, the pressure builds and forces her to confront the “monster” in her life emotional exhaustion and generational trauma leading her to realize that surviving is not the same as truly living. By graduation, Maya grows into a stronger, more self-aware version of herself, ready to move forward and create a better future.
I chose “The Girl Who Kept Going” because it represents Maya’s journey through emotional struggles, trauma, and growth. Even when she felt overwhelmed and exhausted, she continued to push forward. The title shows her strength and resilience, which is the main message of my story.
The goal of this project was to tell a meaningful story about growing up, overcoming challenges, and showing the difference between just surviving and truly living.
For this project, I planned out the storyline and developed characters like Maya, her younger brother Jayden, and her boyfriend Amarion. I wrote about the challenges she faced at home and how those struggles affected her life at school. I focused on showing her growth over time as she learned to stay strong and keep moving forward.
This project helped me improve my writing and storytelling skills, but it also relates to me personally. I connected to Maya’s experiences and emotions, which made the story feel more real and meaningful to write. It helped me express feelings and understand how challenges can help someone grow stronger and more self-aware.
This project shows my creativity, my personal connection to my work, and my ability to turn real-life experiences into a meaningful story.”
