I was tasked with creating props for our interactive immersive experience. As a result, I made three props: a giant sea otter, paper jellyfish, and foam sea urchins.
Giant Sea Otter (Marvin): I cut a shape from cardboard and glued felt fabrics to create the base of the prop. Afterward, I outlined the edges with brown pipecleaners. The nose and maw are drawn on the felt with black marker, but the eyes are premade.
Jellyfish: Using a wasted stack of origami paper, I cut and taped strips into round, open shapes to create the bell (dome head). The tentacles were made using plastic Kroger bags.
Sea Urchins: I found a couple of round, hard foam balls in a bin from the Art room. I stuck toothpicks in the balls and painted over them with glow-in-the-dark paint. One of the sea urchins was placed in Marvin's paws.
The Driving Question: Can we use technology to bring the past to life?
I was tasked to design and build an app to educate users about the Empire of Mali, including information about the geography, cuisine, and a blurb about Sundiata.
