Being named Teen of the Summer by the City of Atlanta is a prestigious honor that recognizes outstanding leadership, dedication, and a commitment to public service across the entire metropolitan area. Receiving this award signifies that out of thousands of young people participating in city programs, my work ethic and ability to mentor others stood out as a model for my peers. Whether I was organizing activities at Bessie Branham Park, coordinating educational field trips to Zoo Atlanta, or simply ensuring that every child felt included during our daily "popsicle breaks," I focused on being a reliable and positive presence for the community. This achievement is more than just a title; it is a formal acknowledgment from the Department of Parks and Recreation that I possess the maturity to lead under pressure and the heart to serve with excellence. Standing on that stage to accept this award was a defining moment in my high school career, proving that my dedication to my city has made a tangible, recognized impact on the lives of Atlanta’s youth.
In this interview, I sat down to talk about my journey with Atlanta Teen Leaders and the Girls Academy, sharing how these programs and the people around me have shaped who I am today. I also took a moment to get real and open up about the loss of my brother—a personal experience that has deeply influenced my perspective and my drive. Toward the end, I shared some advice for other teens coming up behind me on how to stay grounded and keep pushing through the hard times. This conversation is a mix of my leadership experience and the personal story that keeps me motivated to lead with heart.
