Research & Brainstorming

INDEPENDENT STUDY (SCREENWRITING)

This week I brainstormed some ideas of what I'd want my film to be about. My ideas are mostly surrounded around the Sci-Fi Genre.

This week I've learned of the many steps that I need to take in order to complete a screenplay. I also decide that I will be using Final Draft 10 software to write my script.

(I was originally going to use final draft 10 but I've decided to use Writer Duet instead considering It has a more guided writing format for someone who's never written a script before)

I watched the screenplay of one of my favorite films to see the format and writing style of the scene.

I watched short films to get the gist of how they are written and how I want to write mine. I looked at the film style and direction as well.

Final Idea

Title - Outrun The Demons

My film will be in the coming of age Genre. It is based around growing up in a religious household and becoming your own person.

To start off I wrote a script treatment for guidance as I write the script

Logline - Outrun the demons follows a teenage girl’s experience of growing up in a religious household as she finds out who she really is.

Film Setting

I received feedback from The Director and Producer of 71 seconds and A21 production Intern, Jazmin Bryant. She told me to...

Be Persistent (don’t give up on the script and make sure I’m updating my script as much as possible)
Don’t fully delete pages/keep everything I write but want to delete in a different place
Practice writing to figure out my style before I jump right into writing the script

Semester 1 Reflection and Getting Started Again

I believe that organizing my thoughts and preparing myself to begin writing/second semester is what I did really well during this semester. After reading through my feedback I saw a pattern of people admiring how descriptive I was when documenting my progress. I'll continue to be as descriptive as possible and add all of my progress to give people a thorough look into what I accomplish. I also got some feedback on staying persistent during the process of writing my script, I'll continue to make sure that I get everything done within my personal deadlines. I chose to take this feedback into account considering it would be the most analytical and they're things that I need to stay on top of. To make sure that my project has a public audience, I will find a screenwriting contest to enter my script into.

Week 1 of Script Writing - Bellamy is currently with someone who she knows isn't good for her and abiding by what she was raised on

Week 2 of Script Writing - Bellamy questions if she's the problem with her beliefs, she begins to follow a path that doesn't align with her religion

Week 3 of scriptwriting - Bellamy's first time seeing Xoey (Character that helps Bellamy break out from her sheltered personality) but they don't interact - 8 pages

Week 4 of scriptwriting - Bellamy is in distress and fully regretting her decision

Script Short Summary (So Far)

The main character, Bellamy did something that she knows that goes against her religion and is feeling guilty about it. New character introduced, Xoey, is more care free and is everything that Bellamy aspires to be like. While in church she begins to come to the realization that maybe what she's being taught isn't exactly right.

Outside Feedback

Get to the point quicker ( Maybe begin script at home/church instead of school)
Make settings more specific (Early Morning, Afternoon,Dawn)
Use more descriptive words when writing the actions
remove camera direction

Characters

Bellamy - Main Character - 16 years old

Bellamy is a Junior in high school who doesn’t like where she is mentally or physically. She’s surrounded by people that don’t share her beliefs and wants out.

Dylan - 19

Dylan is the brother that watches his sister feel out of place and get mistreated by friends and family. Yet, he is one of her biggest supporters with whatever she decides to do.

Xoey - 17

Xoey is one of the first characters besides her brother that Bellamy meets which her beliefs align with. Xoey is a person that lives by the rules she create.

Angelo - 18

Bellamy’s significant other and safe haven. Bellamy started her relationship with Angelo out of admiration and love but is staying because it’s all she knows.

Music Blog

Intoduction

A music blog is resource that provides music critique and recommendations for its readers. My music blog will focus on Artists that don't fit much into the mainstream category hence it being called indie discs. Once my platform becomes larger, It can become a place for smaller artists to gain exposure. I will be reviewing music and highlighting the talents of some of my favorite and new artists. My goal by the end of the semester is to gain close to 100 followers and gain some traffic on my website.

Website

The website includes a playlist for the month of march and a weekly spotlight song that is playable. I will soon write reviews corresponding with each song and artist under this week's featured songs.

Instagram

The instagram consists of posts of music with the artists tagged. Although I currently only have fifteen followers, they mostly consist of small indie artists and instagram profiles like mine. My following consists of Musicians, Bands, & Artists.

I decided to switch my website builder resource to weebly because I did not want to publish just yet and I would like to hold off on purchasing the Indiediscsblog.com domain
