"Inside Circe"

Although Circe is known as an antagonist in the Odyssey, there are many ways in which she is a victim and someone that deserves sympathy. She has gone through heartbreak and along with that came the confusion and inner struggle of why she isn’t enough. In this collage we see the symbolism of her inside thoughts and feelings being reflected in a character represented in current society. Circe is portrayed to be the antagonist in the Odyssey because she captured Odysseus, turned his men to pigs, and then made them stay there for about a year, but if you really look into this relationship you will see that she made these decisions out of sorrow and heartbreak. The modern character Frankie is going through something similar. Frankie is constantly getting hit with ideas on social media such as that she is not pretty and smart or not talented enough. This causes her to deprive herself of love, and any positive influences. They are connected in their constant self deprivation and though it is from two different places it is the same idea. Circe is the antagonist, but she has a lot of emotions trapped inside, like a depressed teen. Circe saw a chance to feel different with Odysseus, but Odysseus doesn’t end up loving her back. Frankie is not getting the support from her peers that she needs to feel connected to them. Our collage shows how they are similar and how they are truly feeling on the inside.
