Connecting Threads Reflection
In our AP Language class, we started working on a project called "Connecting Threads," where we were asked to select a concept that is central to our existence and, after doing some research on nonfiction and other sources, creating complex central claims that state our opinions and recognize the complexity of the ideas within our lives. To express our ideas, we wrote fully-developed argumentative essays that synthesized quotes from four sources and provided original commentary to convince our audience how to view the concept. Finally, we took the first steps to design and create original sculptures that will display our ideas and our evidence. We sketched designs that visually connected to the topics we studied and used cardboard to design prototypes. Next semester, we'll use Inkscape design software to carve and engrave wood to create fully realized 3D works of art that express our ideas and opinions.
For my project, I selected the topic of "Identity." This is an interesting subject to me because. I was drawn to this concept because I know the struggle of not knowing where you belong in the world and I wanted to expand the search on that. Ultimately, I came to this conclusion: Identity is the sum of who we are, meaning that there are so many different aspects of ourselves. Making a statement about ourselves is done through self-definition, self-determination, and self-expression of who you are and what you want; that although we’re the only expert on ourselves, it doesn’t matter how others try to define us.

Emily Dickinson Poetic Musical Score
For this assignment we read and analyzed poetry written by Emily Dickinson, then we selected one of her poems and created a musical score. We selected the poem "Hope" is like a thing with feathers--This poem is comparing hope with nature. Hope is a natural thing that represents life and freedom. I see a lot of repetition in this poem, but also some metaphors. The tone of this poem is kind of uplifting and hopeful.
The chords that we used for our score are the highest chords on the guitar because the tone of the poem is hopeful.
Final Task Video - This is a video of me giving a brief explanation the assignment I chose to complete for my final AP Lang Task.
