From the Kids

We asked the children...

What is the best thing you learnt last half term?

What was your favourite moment at school?

Year 2/3

Year 4 & 5

In Year 4 and 5, we have had a brilliant first half term and welcomed lots of new children to our Drayton Park community. We also sadly said goodbye to a few and we wish them all the best in their new schools. We have been learning about the digestive system in Science and Jupiter put on a fantastic assembly to showcase their knowledge by acting out a 'foodball' game! As part of our Me and My Community theme, we have been learning about where we live and we are now experts on the countries, counties and cities of the UK. Year 4 have also made a great start to their Times tables practice!

We also asked the children how they have been finding the new term so far and here is what they had to stay:

"We loved using the thesaurus today to up-level our writing." - Lilliana, Jupiter Class

"Swimming has been the best two weeks of school ever!" - Year 5 children.

"There is a lot of talent in this school, with a bit more practice you will be competition ready," - Middlesex County Cricket Coach

"We had a great day at the football tournament and we came third!" - Kuzey, Saturn Class

EYFS and Year 1

Exploring our world.

We have had a fantastic first half term in EYFS and year 1. The children are all showing great enthusiasm when coming to school and they are already demonstrating a love of learning.

The children always speak so positively about school and already demonstrate their own unique interests.

"At school I like drawing with my friends because I like drawing. I love to draw rainbows." - Isabella, Sun class.

"At school I like writing, learning, reading and maths. I like these because they make me feel calm." - Ivy, Sun class.

"I like drawing, climbing and playing with my friends. I like climbing and having a challenge and using my arms." - Rudy, Sun class.

"I like playing with the dollies at school because I like playing in the kitchen." - Frida, Moon class.

"I like playing outside and running." - Tedi, Moon class.

"I like maths! We are learning number bonds to 10." - Ivor, Venus class.

"I like it when adults read books to me, I have a book about a unicorn that did a rainbow poo." - Rafael, Venus class.

Year 6

We asked the children to reflect on their most enjoyable experiences this half term and what they most enjoyed learning about.

"I love building dens in the playground at lunchtime: we get to be really creative and have to ponder about how to use the resources we have. At the same time I get to play with my friends." - Matilda.

"For me my most enjoyable experience was canoeing at Cardfields, because we were able to chant  pineapple to aid our ultimate victory!!!" - Sofia.

"I really, really enjoyed learning about fractions. I didn't know much about them, but now I do. I know when adding and subtracting the denominator has to be the same. Multiplying fractions is my friend as it is so easy and dividing fractions makes me hungry so I need KFC - Keep, Flip, Change!" - Saifullah.

"I mostly enjoyed learning about the Maya this term, about their sacrifices and how they lived." - Leander.

Drayton park blog

As it was Mental Health Awareness week , Year 6 had the wonderful opportunity of having a mental health workshop. An incredible lady called Calais came and taught us that journaling is good for the mind and wellbeing. She was very nice and taught us the significance of using our mind . We took down our whiteboards and participated in activities that boosted positive thinking.  We explored journaling and described our feelings as the weather, songs and movies. Calais helped us to navigate our thoughts and feelings through mindful breathing exercises.

Quotes & Feedback

We ( Tilda and I ) thought we should get some student feedback,-this being a student blog and voice of the kids.

We asked some yr 6 students to participate and found many willing pupils. They were all asked the same questions about how the workshop affected them.

Isabella Galaxy Class Year 6:

Q: What was your favourite activity/exercise you did ?

A: My favourite part was balancing while listening to the  gummy bear song.

Q: How did that workshop make you feel about your mental health?
