Each Thursday, during Dodger Core, DHS students receive a lesson from the DHS Counselors about topics related to social and emotional learning. On this page, you will have access to the video lessons we present, the power points that guide our discussions and links to resources.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI), with the advisement of the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) alliance, Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. Strong SEL skills allow for successful management of life tasks such as learning, problem solving, controlling impulsivity, and caring about oneself and others.
