We are changing the way that scores are collected, stored and collated.
While everyone is welcome to shoot at any event, anyone who wants their scores to be submitted to the archery scores database afterwards, and thus be entered into the various competitions around the Kingdom, Principality and beyond MUST now sign up to the Opt-In Archer Database.
Additionally, in order to sign up, each archer must be a paid member of SCA inc, ID CiC or other SCA affiliate. Archers need to be insured, lets make sure we keep that working for us.
Every archer is free to not sign up and still shoot, however their scores will not be uploaded, or entered into seasonal competitions and thus will not be made public. Shoots that are reconciled on the day, such as the Protectors shoot will not be affected.
The changes are due to a number of reasons.
Keeping personal names when not absolutely necessary is not GDPR compliant and publishing names without express consent is a definite no no.
Personal names have in the past been used to double check the identity of each archer. We will now use an 'Archer Number'.
Entering SCA names after an event can be a minefield of special characters, which many people do not even have on their keyboard, not to mention deciphering dodgy handwriting or working out weird or mis-heard spellings. These things have in the past caused the same person with different spellings to be attributed the wrong number of ranking points, not to mention it simply being an added frustration for marshals trying to submit scores post event.
It has historically been very difficult to know what 'you' personally scored at an event unless the marshal adds them up on the day and discloses the scores prior to leaving the event. Finding scores and score sheets after an event can be very difficult unless you know the marshal personally.
The Database will be rolled out to all of ID on the 1st of May 2026.
