Frequently Asked Questions and Statements
Students: "Why should I consider alternative learning programs?"
Sometimes children are faced with numerous barriers that are making it difficult for them to set goals for themselves and remain focused on those goals. Some of these barriers could be the learning environments, social interactions, peer pressure, class size, mental health challenges, and etc.
Students: "It has been hard getting focused since returning to school after working online for a school year. I feel behind."
This is a common feeling. Please let your school social worker and/or your assigned school counselor know about your issues with adjusting to in-person classes. We will assist you through the process.
Parent: "Why is my child not trying?"
It may be that your child is indeed trying but struggling to focus due to other issues that have not been identified. They may not know why they are choosing not to attend school.
Parent: "I am doing the best that I can. I have other children too."
You are doing your best, and we as a school understand that. Please allow us to help you. We can schedule a meeting with you and child to assist you with identifying what your child's goals are and what supports may be needed for them to be successful.
Parent: "My child is not quitting high school! I will not accept that!"
We want to make sure that EVERY JHS student has the opportunity to graduate with options. We understand that their route to obtaining their diploma may not be with us, and if that is the case, we want to assist them in that transition.
