Effective Communication: Using Technology to Connect with Your Child’s School

Target Audience: Parents of Students Grades K-12


Families will learn howD to find digital school information efficiently and how to communicate effectively with the appropriate school personnel when needed. Participants will discuss common communication challenges and develop strategies for handling them effectively. The second half of the session will provide an overview of the PowerSchool parent portal. Families will learn how to manage notifications, check their student’s grades, schedule, and attendance information. Parents or guardians should bring their PowerSchool log in credentials so they can practice using PowerSchool. Parents who don't have their credentials will learn how to register for an account during the class.



Navigating the Online World with Your Family

Target Audience: Parents of Students Grades K-8


This program is designed to give useful tools to parents who are concerned about the potential pitfalls of their child’s interactions online. During the presentation, parents learn how to have an open conversation about internet safety and device use with their family. Parents go through a simple checklist for monitoring and managing their child’s online time. Participants share and compare their concerns about online interactions, experience with social media and other Internet use, and formulate personalized “next steps” based on the information from the instructor and tactics successfully used by other participants.



Digital Literacy Skills For Parents

Target Audience: Parents of Students Grades K – 12


Parents will learn digital literacy skills to enhance their computer skills. We will cover computer basics, device types, keyboard, mouse, software, Apps, operating systems, browsers, finding and evaluating information online, etc. This information will help parents to support

their child on their Chromebooks for academic success.



Internet Safety Resources for Parents

Target Audience: Parents of Students in Grades K-12


Let’s be proactive by equipping our students’ families with information about the harms associated with sexting, and other inappropriate acts done online, and the ways parents can protect their children. We encourage families to participate in this interactive presentation and discussion.

This session is designed to give parents information about the educational digital resources available to their child. Parents will learn what resources are available and how to access them.

Parents will also learn strategies on how to help their children at home with these digital tools.
