Many factors influence a child’s likelihood to use illegal substances or develop a substance abuse disorder. Effective drug prevention focuses on reducing the risk factors and strengthening the protective factors that are most closely related to substance abuse. Parents and caregivers will learn the risk factors associated with drug experimentation, what drugs children are using, and how to help children and teens resist peer and media influences.

When adults respond quickly and consistently to bullying behavior they send the message that it is not acceptable. Research shows this can stop bullying behavior over time. Learn why children bully and how to help prevent bullying behavior.

Engaged parents and caregivers help young people make healthy lifestyle choices, resist drugs and alcohol, avoid sexual risk behaviors, and support success in school! Participants will explore risk factors that lead teens and tweens to make bad choices and discuss ways to help students avoid risky behaviors

It is important for students to develop the assets necessary to be emotionally and socially healthy. In this workshop learn what it takes for your child to be resilient at any age. This class will include information about important transitions and teaching children how to respond to peer pressure.

Youth – Empowered Leadership (YEL)

This yearlong course is designed for youth grades 10-11 and is delivered once a month virtually for 1 hour. Topics include - BE A LEADER: Who are you? Your Inner Core, Respecting Yourself

and Others, Handling Conflict, Courtesy, Building Good Habits, Managing Stress, Dynamic Leadership, 2nd Mile, and 2nd Nature. Leadership snapshots including leaders such as

Abraham Lincoln, Angela Merkel, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, and others. Community leaders are featured throughout the program curriculum to inspire students to

achieve no matter their circumstances. Character spotlights provide instruction in character and discussion starters to promote discussion.



Positive Parenting Program–(Triple P)

Positive Parenting Program–(Triple P)

Target Audience: Parents of Students Ages 11-16

Partner: University of Chapel Hill (UNC)

Triple P is an evidence-based parenting program for parents/caregivers of youth ages 11-16. It doesn’t tell parents how to be a parent, it’s more like a toolbox of ideas. Parents/caregivers will meet in a small group in-person or virtual for a total of four classes. Participants receive up to $35 in gift cards for participation.


Triple P helps parents/caregivers to:

• Manage youth misbehavior so everyone in the family enjoys life

• Set rules and routines that everyone respects and follows

• Take care of themselves as parents/caregivers

• Feel more confident
