A newsletter at an elementary school is a regular update from the teacher or school to keep parents informed about what’s happening in the classroom. It includes important information like upcoming events, what students are learning, and reminders. For first-grade parents, it helps you stay connected with your child's education and know how to support their learning at home.
What's happening in our classroom?
¿Qué está pasando en nuestra clase?
In this unit, students are exploring the natural world and learning about habitats. We are discovering different types of habitats, the plants and animals that live in them, and how they are all connected.
Students are also learning how animals survive in their environments and how they are adapted to their habitats. We are beginning to explore food chains and how living things depend on each other.
This unit helps students understand nature and builds a foundation for caring for our environment.
In this unit, students are reviewing and practicing the most important math skills they have learned this year. This is the last unit of the school year!
We are working on adding and subtracting within 20, while building fluency within 10. Students are also solving story problems and practicing how to understand and explain their thinking. In addition, they are working on counting and representing numbers up to 120.
These skills are very important as they get ready for second grade, where they will continue learning about place value and work with larger numbers.
The activities in this unit can be done in different orders, giving students many opportunities to practice, build confidence, and strengthen their math skills.
We will keep learning about how to be a good learner: focus, listen, talk to yourself and be assertive. We will be practicing communication skills in our morning circle!
The students are learning the lyrics of our morning songs called
“Who am I".
We encourage you to practice at home!

HOMEROOM TEACHER
I was born and raised in Catalonia, Spain, and this is my third year teaching in the United States, marking my 15th year as an Elementary Teacher. I speak Catalan, English, and Spanish, and I’ve recently studied Elementary Montessori Education for children aged 6 to 12. Additionally, I’m a qualified Speech Therapist, which helps me support students in developing strong communication skills.
I love traveling, exploring new cultures, and spending time in nature, especially backcountry skiing. These passions enrich my teaching by bringing real-world connections to the classroom.
This year, I’ll be teaching Math, Science, Literacy, SEL and small groups in Spanish, and I’m excited to create an engaging and inclusive learning environment for all students.
I'm so excited to get to know you this year!
