A newsletter at an elementary school is a regular update from the teacher or school to keep parents informed about what’s happening in the classroom. It includes important information like upcoming events, what students are learning, and reminders. For first-grade parents, it helps you stay connected with your child's education and know how to support their learning at home.
What's happening in our classroom?
¿Qué está pasando en nuestra clase?
In this Human Body unit, students are learning about how the body works and how different body systems help us live, move, and stay healthy.
Students explore the skeletal system, learning that bones give our bodies shape, help us move, and protect important organs. They also learn about the muscular system and how muscles work with bones to help us move when they contract and relax. In addition, students discover that muscles connect to bones through tendons.
Through read-alouds, discussions, and hands-on activities, students are building vocabulary and understanding how different parts of the body work together.
As part of this unit, students will also learn how to write an opinion paragraph. They will practice sharing their ideas clearly by stating their opinion, giving reasons, and organizing their thoughts in a short paragraph.
By the end of the unit, students will better understand how the body works and will continue developing their reading, speaking, and writing skills.
During the month of March, in this unit, students continue learning about measurement, while also strengthening their understanding of numbers and problem solving.
Students begin by comparing the lengths of objects by lining them up at the same starting point. Then they learn to measure objects using small units, such as connecting cubes, paper clips, or small cubes. They practice measuring carefully so there are no gaps or overlaps between the units.
Some objects require many units to measure, which gives students practice counting larger numbers and thinking about groups of tens.
Students will also solve story problems related to length, helping them apply their measurement skills in real situations.
These 3 weeks we are going to focus on the womans’s rights and gender equity
How to be a good learner: focus, listen, talk to yourself and be assertive. We will be practicing communication skills in our morning circle!

HOMEROOM TEACHER
I was born and raised in Catalonia, Spain, and this is my third year teaching in the United States, marking my 15th year as an Elementary Teacher. I speak Catalan, English, and Spanish, and I’ve recently studied Elementary Montessori Education for children aged 6 to 12. Additionally, I’m a qualified Speech Therapist, which helps me support students in developing strong communication skills.
I love traveling, exploring new cultures, and spending time in nature, especially backcountry skiing. These passions enrich my teaching by bringing real-world connections to the classroom.
This year, I’ll be teaching Math, Science, Literacy, SEL and small groups in Spanish, and I’m excited to create an engaging and inclusive learning environment for all students.
I'm so excited to get to know you this year!
