A newsletter at an elementary school is a regular update from the teacher or school to keep parents informed about what’s happening in the classroom. It includes important information like upcoming events, what students are learning, and reminders. For first-grade parents, it helps you stay connected with your child's education and know how to support their learning at home.
What's happening in our classroom?
¿Qué está pasando en nuestra clase?
Students will learn about Mesopotamia, the importance of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, and the earliest form of writing: cuneiform. They will also learn about Egypt, the importance of the Nile River, and the building of the Great Pyramid.
In the first two parts of the domain, the concept of religion in Mesopotamia and ancient Egypt is introduced as one of the forces shaping those civilizations.
Throughout this domain, students will focus on informational writing. They will compare
key components, create timelines, and collaborate with their peers to write about what
they learned.
Starting Monday, February 9th — Math Unit 5: Adding Within 100
In this unit, first graders are learning how to add numbers up to 100 using their understanding of place value (tens and ones).
Students build on what they already know about numbers. They have learned how to break numbers apart into tens and ones (for example, 65 = 60 + 5). Now, they use this knowledge to add numbers in different ways.
At first, students practice adding:
A two-digit number and a one-digit number
Two two-digit numbers
when no new ten is needed.
Next, they learn what happens when adding ones makes a new group of ten.
Students explore different strategies to add, such as:
Adding tens first, then ones
Adding all the tens together and all the ones together
They use hands-on materials like cubes, drawings, and number sentences to explain their thinking and build understanding.
This month, we will be celebrating Black History Month. Each classroom will focus specifically on honoring their lives and contributions!
The students are learning the lyrics of our morning songs called “Los días de la semana".
We encourage you to practice at home!

HOMEROOM TEACHER
I was born and raised in Catalonia, Spain, and this is my third year teaching in the United States, marking my 15th year as an Elementary Teacher. I speak Catalan, English, and Spanish, and I’ve recently studied Elementary Montessori Education for children aged 6 to 12. Additionally, I’m a qualified Speech Therapist, which helps me support students in developing strong communication skills.
I love traveling, exploring new cultures, and spending time in nature, especially backcountry skiing. These passions enrich my teaching by bringing real-world connections to the classroom.
This year, I’ll be teaching Math, Science, Literacy, SEL and small groups in Spanish, and I’m excited to create an engaging and inclusive learning environment for all students.
I'm so excited to get to know you this year!
